Need to split Ford 1210 at the transmission case. Looking for advice

fixed. I found the two manuals I had would have been ok if my tractor was 100% functioning and I was doing maintenance to prevent a failure. I needed a manual that assumes you're starting out with a failed tractor. My post above where I say "everything looked like it was lining up well" was...

Need to split Ford 1210 at the transmission case. Looking for advice

I'm in CT. It's been really cold work lol! Sounds like a plan. Sadly, I think the starter is fine, but I'll look. A buddy lent me a camera scope that links to a phone. I should be able to see what's going on in there before taking too much apart. I'm pretty sure I'll be splitting again...

Need to split Ford 1210 at the transmission case. Looking for advice

Thanks David. I'm confident that the starter is fine, but I will make sure. From reading other online info I think it was too difficult to bolt back together and something is not aligned. If the starter is ok, does anyone know what will be damaged when I resplit the tractor? Have I traded...

Need to split Ford 1210 at the transmission case. Looking for advice

I have everything back together and the engine wont crank when I turn the key. It's not an electrical problem or a starter issue. It is bound up. Locked. Loud click and seems seized. What did I do wrong? What do I need to do to fix it. I know I'll need to split again, but not sure what I...

Need to split Ford 1210 at the transmission case. Looking for advice

I was able to reattach the spring in the transmission case with string, wire, and alternating vice grips, little by little, as I moved the case closer which worked well.

Need to split Ford 1210 at the transmission case. Looking for advice

I screwed up and I'm not sure when or where, but I need help. I was able to separate the tractor and make repairs to the control rod. I used JB to hold the ball joint to the rod and drilled and pinned it.

Need to split Ford 1210 at the transmission case. Looking for advice

It helps some time to step away and regroup. I realized I hadnt unscrewed the hydraulic hose nipple underneath the transmission case. Helps to reread the manual. Separates nice when it's ready. Is J.B. Weld the way to go from this point to reattach? Is it enough, or is there a belt and...

Need to split Ford 1210 at the transmission case. Looking for advice

thanks for the replies. Very helpful @smokinmad! Made progress today and have everything undone, tractor well supported, and the bolts out between the sections I need to separate. I've only been able to get about a 1/8' gap of separation by tapping a screwdriver around the seam on both sides...

Need to split Ford 1210 at the transmission case. Looking for advice

I have had the fwd/rev control rod detach inside the transmission case of a Ford 1210. I've searched forums to learn that it is common, but there's not much on fixing the problem. Has anyone split the Ford 1210 at the transmission case and are there any pitfalls to avoid? manuals I have only...

Need help with which seals for a Ford 1210 4WD front wheel knuckle?

Hi TBN! Looking to replace the seals in the right front hub casing of my 1986 build 1210 w/ 4WD and I'm not sure how to tell which casing my 1210 has: SBA322011901 or 902? Parts dealer said the part is cast into the casing but the only number in the casing looks like 2Z 0A 33? (pic) Can...

Ford 1210 put a hole in rear axle housing. Pics. Fix ideas?

I found a used housing and bought it. It should get here in a week or so and I'll swap it in. I'll take the busted one of and see about the seals and gaskets and order them too. Once I have a spare housing though, I will see which of these fix-it suggestions would have been most likely to...

Ford 1210 put a hole in rear axle housing. Pics. Fix ideas?

Thanks again everyone. For the record, yes, the busted housing is made of magnet-checked aluminum. I'm leaning toward just getting the used housing and new gaskets and worrying less about the repair over time. I might experiment with some of the suggestions in this thread to cut some aluminum...

Ford 1210 put a hole in rear axle housing. Pics. Fix ideas?

Thanks all! I appreciate this site so much! I got the brake drum off with a combo of citydude's help and the slide hammer. (Getting loaner tools at the Advance Auto is great deal!) Here is another picture of the hole with a quarter stuck next to it for size reference. What looked like a...

Ford 1210 put a hole in rear axle housing. Pics. Fix ideas?

Great advice Rebeldad! I think I'll bring the part to a welder for pro advice, and a quote, when I get it off. Jasper, I will, for sure, zip tie, wire, band and tape! the pins in once I get this all behind me! Hopeful that 24 hrs of rust penetrant has worked some magic on the bound brake drum!

Ford 1210 put a hole in rear axle housing. Pics. Fix ideas?

Thanks Jasper, I'm going to take a closer look at that spot to see if it's a crack or not. Picture does look like a crack. I may have been focused on the hole and not noticed. I agree with you. Structure would be compromised if it's cracked from the hole past that shoulder in the casting...

Ford 1210 put a hole in rear axle housing. Pics. Fix ideas?

thanks JC! Good input. If I think I can get decently clean and roughed enough, I might try a patch as a short term fix while I locate the used part. If I can't get the brake drum off soon, it might be the only way I can move the tractor if I need to.

Ford 1210 put a hole in rear axle housing. Pics. Fix ideas?

Thanks for the reply Mike! I don't think the vertical mark is a crack, but I won't know for sure until I get it off. That's my current challenge. That brake drum is on there good with no way to get behind it. I bolted a slide hammer to the small threaded holds, but the threads pulled out...

Ford 1210 put a hole in rear axle housing. Pics. Fix ideas?

Hi TBN, I was in the woods with by Ford 1210 with a box blade on it moving stuff around. I didn't realize that the woods pulled one of the pins out of my left 3 point hitch arm and it came off the pin at the tractor. I backed up with the the blade lowered to push some dirt and instead pushed...

Ford 1210 4x4 not working. Picture of problem update!

I never like when threads dead-end, unresolved, so here's an update: I tore down the whole front axle and cleaned all the parts. Overall the parts were in really nice shape given a whole bunch of sheared bolts and metal bits were grinding away in there for however long. There was wear to the...

Ford 1210 4x4 not working. Picture of problem update!

got everything ready to battle the sheared bolts and i was able to just walk all 6 out with a jewelers screwdriver in about a minute. That never happens to me. Thanks for the welder idea. I'll definitely try that some day!

Ford 1210 4x4 not working. Picture of problem update!

I took the front axle off the Ford 1210 today and but it on the bench. Chewed metal bits fell out of the front when I put it down so I knew I was in for it. When I split the two halves apart my 4x4 problem fell right out just as you see it in the picture. The bolts that held the bevel gear to...

    Extension cord for block heaters?

the heater cord jacket got weathered and cracked on my old truck and combo of wet and road salt would sometimes cause the GFCI in my garage to trip. I eventually replaced the block heater cord but I also wired a light into the connector so I would see power at the truck. They sell cords this...

    Extension cord for block heaters?

14 gauge is fine. I work in new products for a company that makes plugs so it's usually easier to make my own extension cords. I just checked the garage cord I usually use for block heating tractor and/or Ford truck. I have a really long version that is 14AWG SJOOW portable cord. It stays...

Ford 1210 4x4 not working. Picture of problem update!

Hi TBN, I'm hoping you can help me find a starting point to fixing the 4x4 on my Ford 1210. I moved 15 inches of snow off of my 450' driveway with FEL and box blade on Saturday night. No issues using 4x4 at all. Next day did some light clean up and 4x4 stopped working. Lifted the front...

looking for rear wheels for ford 1210

I've had rear wheel fail due to rust and I'm struggling to find a replacement. Ford 1210 has metric wheels with about a 190mm 6 bolt lug circle and 90mm center hole. My tractor has the ag wheels. Does anyone have a set of rear wheels to sell? Does anyone know a good place I should try to...

F935 cranks but won't start, has run perfect

I've had a F935 for 3 years. I like the machine. It's always started and run fine. I've cut grass with it a few times a week since March, no trouble. Last week I started the machine (started right up) drove it no more than 100 yards, realized I'd forgotten to do something inside. Drove it...
