I have a JD LX255 which has a Kohler CV15S; 15HP single cylinder engine; turns over but no compression and a clunking noise so suspect thrown rod or piston.
Reading online it appears not an easy repair so wondering if purchasing a replacement engine might be a better option in terms of time...
