Jansen Earth Drill Hydraulic Auger

I'm wondering if any of you have tried this post hole digger. Hydraulic earth drill Jansen HBG-200 Auger - Jansen USA I've tried a regular three point hitch mounted PHD and it's just not got what it takes to get through my rocky soil. I'm looking for an effective solution as I've got quite a...

4720 Fuel Leaking from Filter Primer

I have fuel leaking out (practically running out) from above my fuel filter. It's coming out around the fuel filter primer pump. I'm planning to replace the fuel filter today, but will that do the job or are there other seals in that fuel pump assembly that I need to look at replacing?

    Ski/Tubing Tow Rope

I have heard of people running a tow rope off of the tractor's PTO to pull people up a hill for tubing back down the hill. Have any of you done anything like this? Any suggestions of how this could be accomplished?

3-Point Hitch Part number for post/bolt part that hitch attaches to?

So, the other day I was pulling out some sage brush with my scraper when the post or bolt or pin (or whatever it's called) to which the arm of my three point hitch attaches to the tractor frame broke off. Not good. Can anyone help me find the part number (or even the correct name) for this...

    Electrical -- Dashboard Lights Flashing

The short version: When I turn the key on my 4720, the dashboard lights flash. Same thing happens if I try to turn on the lights. Nothing else happens. Any suggestions on how to diagnose this problem? The long version, or, how I probably caused this problem: The tractor started fine...

    Loader Determining FEL lift capacity

I thought this question might have been answered previously but several minutes of search have not yielded an answer. I am wondering whether my 4720 with a 400x loader can lift 1850 lb. hay bales high enough to stack them three high. That would put the bottom of the highest bale at 8 feet...

    Mowing 709 Mower on a 4720 Tractor?

I have a 4720. I have about 30 acres that needs to be mowed. It's partially covered with sagebrush, much of it with a diameter between 2" and 4". It seems to me that the ideal implement would be something similar to the JD 709 Rotary Cutter. It has a min. hp requirement of 45 and the 4720...

    Power Beyond Installation

Has anyone here installed a Power Beyond Kit on a JD 4x20 or similar model? I am thinking about getting the kit but the installation price being quoted by the dealer is more than the price of the kit itself . . . ugh. If it's not terribly complicated and doesn't require a bunch of specialized...

    Quick Change System Recommendations?

After taking half an hour last night to get my rear blade detached, I'm thinking hard about a quick attach system of some kind and looking for recommendations. I'm not keen on extending the length of the draft links any more than necessary, but I would like a system that will work with as...

    Snowblower Got the Snowblower.

Well, I went ahead and bought the snowblower. I decided to go with the 67" meteor. Some of you may recall that's the one that my dealer had left over from last year. He sold it to me for $1399. Ideally I would have liked to have gotten a 74" model but everyplace I called priced them around...

    Rear Blade Rear Blade Comparisons

Do any of you have experience with the various different rear blade manufacturers and can offer your thoughts? Local dealers have General Implement, Rhino, Landpride. I expect my Deere dealer would also have Frontier. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks. -- Grant

    4720 Manana

Well the dealer called this afternoon to tell me my new 4720 has arrived. They'll finish getting it set up this afternoon and tomorrow morning and I'll probably be picking it up around mid-day tomorrow. I was talking to the dealer about the power beyond for the backhoe. He didn't order the...

    To make shavings . . . ?

What implement would one use to make shavings, like to put down in a horse stall? I've seen a fair bit of discussion lately about wood chippers. Is the output of those chippers like shavings or more like (as I imagine) the wood chips that you would put down in your flower beds? Any input is...

    Snowblower Snowblower Width for 4720

I have on order a John Deere 4270 with R1 tires. My dealer has in stock (left over from last year) a meteor 67" (or is it 68?) snowblower. I'm thinking that's going to be a little narrow for me. The brochure shows the 4720 to be 90 inches wide with the turf tires...

    Pulled the Trigger - 4720

Well, I've place my order! I decided to go with the 4720, 400X FEL, 2 mid/1 rear SCVs, R1 tires, and 448 BH. I anticipate adding a couple more SCVs, but my dealer tells me they're a field install whether I go with the Deere electric diverter or an aftermarket system. Same with the top-n-tilt...

    Top-N-Tilt -- JD vs. CCM

As I approach this tractor buying decision (really guys, I am eventually going to do this) the issue of the top-n-tilt needs to be addressed. Deere sells one with a retail list of about $830. It requires the electric diverter kid to provide two rear remotes. That's about a $1200 item, so...

    Clearing Sagebrush

I have about 30 acres of sagebrush to clear, then plant with a good drought tolerant grass. Any suggestions on how best to get rid of the sagebrush? I hear people talk about brush hogs -- can they handle sagebrush? -- Grant

    4720 . . . am I the only idiot?

It appears that I am the only idiot online right now . . . I really need to get to bed. Who was it that called this forum "tractor ****"? I'm definitely addicted. Anyway, to my real question. Am I also the only idiot who has paid as much for their 4720 as I am about to? Has anyone here paid...

    Draft Control / Position Control

Here I go again showing my ignorance --what is the difference between Draft Control and position control, and when do you use each? I have read that the Kubota 5030 has draft control available, while the Deere 4000 Twenty series has only position control. Anybody know if this is correct? For...

    MF vs. JD

Don't anybody believe me when I say that I've made up my mind until the tractor is actually discing my field. I have at various times over the last few weeks been convinced I'm buying a Deere, then a Kubota, back to Deere, maybe the Kubota, back to Deere, what about a New Holland, back to...

    MF 481 w/ Loader

After I had narrowed down my choices between a Kubota L5030 and a JD 4720, I give the local classified ads one more look. There I see an MF 481 w/ loader listed for $28K OBO. That's a substantial upgrade in HP over the other two models, for about the same money. Does it sound like a good...

    4720 with Category II implements?

At the dealer today I was told that a JD 4720 could be fitted to operate Cat II implements. Does anybody out there know anything about this? I don't want to overtax the tractor, but I think there might be a few cat II implements I might want to use.

    Tractor Shopping -- 4520/4720

I just went back down to the Deere dealer. No salesmen there today, so I couldn't really talk turkey or get anything done--like make an impulse buy. I drove the 4520 and the 4720 around the yard. The 4520 had trouble with the tachometer, which was not working. That make it hard to really...

    Price Check 4520 Price Quote

I think I am leaning towards getting the Kubota L5030, but I'm still looking hard at the JD 4520. I have the following price quote from my local dealer: 4520 w/ dual mid and single rear SCV: $25,109 400X Loader (w/ mounting, etc.): $4,101 Total: $29,210 Is this price in the right range? It...

    L5030 w/853 Loader

I am looking at an L5030 with an LA853 loader, lQuick Coupler, and 72" bucket with loaded ag tires. Very similiar, I think to what DieselJay asked about last week, but without so many bells and whistles. I thought about getting a couple of rear remotes, but my dealer says that it doesn't cost...

    4520 vs. GL5030 -- or something else?

In my search for tractor information I stumbled across this site. What a find! I really appreciate the insight all of you bring to this process. I know that the comparison I'm seeking has been asked before, and I've tried to read what I can find in the archives here. I'm going to go ahead...
