I've never seen a cop check to verify that the user was the person identified on the placard. But I'd sure like to see it done!
Like I just said on my post, my wife’s name is not on her placard, I don’t use it if she’s not with me, in fact, I don’t use it if I’m the one going into the store and she’s gonna wait in the truck.

But she does all of our grocery shopping, but I drive her to the store, so I usually drop her off at the front door and park in the handicap and she walks to the truck with the groceries and I help load the groceries and help her into the truck.

So, Police should identify everybody exiting and entering vehicles parked in handicapped spaces? Are you saying Police should get a kickback from a store owner to selectively enforce parking violations? I agree that only handicapped people should park in handicapped spaces but it is difficult to enforce.
How in the world did you dream up that? I said nothing of the sort.

Not in Iowa.
If you park in a handicap parking spot, the name of the person on the handicap placard must be in the vehicle when it was parked there.
Let me clarify. How do police know the name of the person on the handicap placard and that they were in the vehicle when it was parked in a parking space. If they don't have that info how can they enforce what you stated?

I was behind a lady a while back and she bought some cigarettes and then bought some junk food with her food stamp card.
Good for the rest of us! Her choices will get her off of the dole sooner than if she was buying real food.

I have no idea the process, but you'd think that information like that should be available in their driver's license database.

Well, I said "should", not "would". :D

Our government and police never fail to stay well behind the times, when it comes to technology.

I don't know nor do I care.
The police get paid to work up a case.
I guess an informant and cameras would be involved.

Here I'm thinking that the cameras in police cruisers are hooked up to the Big Database in the Sky, and automatically provide a detailed information readout of any vehicle the camera can see the plate of.

They could probably get the video from the store and use facial recognition to identify the occupants of the vehicle to make sure one of them possesses the handicap placard. That would keep them busy if they did that for every handicapped parking space. Maybe the FBI could assist with their resources. How about track every cell phone that got out of vehicles with handicapped placards parked in handicapped spaces to confirm the owner of the placard was in the vehicle.
I think we're going to have to hire more cops. The courts will be busier also when all the search warrants are processed.
I was just trying to use common sense on how a cop is supposed to know who was with every car parked in a handicapped space.
