So I get a message from NYSEG. They say my usage has dropped?

No **** Sherlock, it's not hot or cold out, and I am more aware now of how you slip me the weiner every month.

What's next, wellness checks?

Year round the folks family home is 12 kWh a day… or 360 a month.

My home is grid tied and I’m a net producer each month…

Every month I receive a separate letter tracking usage and the family home receives via email a use report…

PGE is the California utility

I built this 2400 sq/ft. house W/basement and insulated it as best i could afford. All the lighting is LED, electric range, cooktop, 2 fridges, 2 deep-freezes, central A/C, DW keeps the main TV on when she is not in bed. My highest electric bill to date this year is $218 (REMC). We never open windows due to my COPD and chronic asthma. DW has been ill for a couple years and keeps the temp. at 77°F year-round.
I read about folks paying >$400/month and wonder why/how.

Add kids and dogs, coming in an out all day..... I can add to that list....like dogs opening a sliding door on 95 degree day while no one is in the house and the ACs are going wide open.

I had campground for many years and RVs can suck some power, My bill would 3000-3500 in the summer per month.

Based on cost of kWh hours all in including taxes and fees.

At 50 cents a kWh 360 kW a month is $180…

I have coworkers easily paying double that and some much more.

Maybe they have electric cars.

Ya, and now renters get mad if you don't allow them to re-charge their electric cars without paying extra.
Unless one pays >$1 millon for a MH, what they do buy is poorly insulated.
I get tickled at the phrase 3-season camping, meaningless. It requires the same amount of R-factor to keep cold in or out.

Just ask them if they expect you to buy gas for their ICE cars. Keep a spare eyeroll:rolleyes: or two handy.

Just looked at the bill today and 50 cents is baseline with 62 cents per kWh over base usage.

Add to that city taxes, etc…

I’m sure a dollar a kWH is in the future…

it’s already $80 a month for natural gas hot water and Saturday gas clothes dryer… at 2.46 base and 2.98 per therm natural gas not including city taxes and fees.

I decided to convert some of my savings to an owned solar installation. The money itself is losing value, electricity costs here in Cali(save-the-world)fornia will continue to rocket higher and higher, and where I live it seems that we have a power outage at least once every month. My system has batteries so it stays up during grid outages.
