Today you pay a hundred grand for something that can't make it past 5 years without a failure.

5 years is being generous I use to be a GM man, the last 10-15 years I only buy Toyota lol. Hundred grand for a truck that 25 years ago might have been in the $20,000 range. Nothing better on the new ones other than more plastic and just electronics

One "feature" I dont like are auto lock doors.

FWIW, there should be in the manual a provision for disabling auto lock because manufacturers understand their trucks are (occasionally) used for work.

The auto lock doesn't bother me, but the seat belt chime is disabled on my trucks.

Trust a computer to make a simple thing horrendous . . .

Here's a dozen or so REAL rocket scientists from NASA, SpaceX, etc. standing around the kiosk trying to figure out how this (bleeping) thing works, with absolutely no success.

Trust a computer to make a simple thing horrendous . . .

Went to a Space-related conference at a fancy hotel in Orlando. You had to register your car for free parking, they had a kiosk in the parking lot.

Here's a dozen or so REAL rocket scientists from NASA, SpaceX, etc. standing around the kiosk trying to figure out how this (bleeping) thing works, with absolutely no success.

I went inside and found some munchkin who worked for the hotel and asked it they could register my plate for me.

No problem - except of course they got it wrong by one extra digit.

Three weeks later I get a nastygram about owing parking, pay or die. Trying to fix this online was a complete waste of time, finally called a person, who called their supervisor, who called THEIR supervisor, etc.

Supervisor says the computer is always right and I owe it. Probably another car like yours with a similar license plate blah blah blah send money.

I asked "Now you tell me, son, what are the chances of an identical car to mine (unusual car), also a convertible, same color, same year, same model, parked next to me at exactly the same day and time, with a unique vanity license plate identical to mine but precisely one digit off? Probably slim to none, ya think?"

Ticket got canceled, and the expo is someplace else next year, where I am sure they'll have their own flavor of computer problems.

Best Regards,
Mike/Florida
I can understand why many avoid the endless cycle that starts once you are in the system…

Garbage in equals garbage out.

More businesses and professional such as Doctors and Lawyers are leasing…

They simply do not want to own anything without support/warranty

For some manufacturers, maybe. And depends on the year.

On my Fords the procedure to disable seat belt chimes/auto lock and other features is outlined in the owner's manual. On my new Toyota...NOPE! Not allowed!

Some on the Toyota forums have been able to fix that by using a laptop and software and changing settings in the ECM...but you have to know what you are doing or you risk bricking your vehicle completely.

In these days and times being in or out of the system can mean a lot of different things. Can you expound on your thoughts?

I have owned my 1930 truck for 40 years got a report to CHP notice???

It was reported I had passenger car tag on a truck???

Well, yes… trucks older than 1935 are registered as passenger… no commercial plate required…

Often, those enforcing don’t know the regulations they are paid to enforce and my registration flagged.

License plate erroneously entered and then it becomes innocent owner’s job to prove innocence.

Cancelled checks have saved me over the years…

One year I received a letter from the California Franchise Tax Board saying my income tax is subject to lien for non payment of vehicle registration…

Not only did I have my cancelled check, I also had received the tag and registration…

Hours on the phone with leave your number and we will call you back but at closing time after waiting several hours no call back.

It took intervention by my elected representative to get it straightened out…

I asked how could this happen and the answer a processing glitch…

The first notice I tossed because it said if you have paid disregard.

The second notice said the same but I had my tag already.

The third said my state income tax refund would be liened.

City fire inspector sent my a violation for vegetation in proximity of chimney…

My only chimney is in the center of my home…

I asked for a picture and was sent a picture of my neighbors house…

Only a live person was able to correct.

Don’t get me started on how the city determines if a property is vacant or not… vacant parcels including buildings and homes and lots are subject to an additional 6k annual vacant parcel tax…

Leasing is good for businesses who can write off the cost, and urban/suburban residents that don’t put many miles on a vehicle. It’s not a good option for us rural people who get hit with excess mileage charges on leased vehicles.
