I've had a couple trucks derate but never down to 5 mph. I've had to turn on the beacon lights to keep from getting run over going up some hills because I couldn't get over 45mph going up themThe current Derates are so dangerous & stupid. Truck suddenly derates to 5MPH while pulling a heavy load. What could go wrong?
I’d bet a faculty lounge genius that never drove anything more than a 10 speed bike on a college campus came up with that one.
I actually thought 2027 got rid of everything. That’s when I plan on my new 2027 Ram 7.2L Cummins![]()

I've had 2 - 08' model f250 and an f550 that just plain shut down. It flashed up pull over now and then immediately shut down and wouldn't start again.
The first time was in the f550 flat bed on a rural road doing about 55mph.
That was no big deal, I just coasted into a pull off.
The F250 had about 30 - 6" lay flat hoses in the bed of the truck and I was pulling a 6" water pump behind me.
I was in the middle lane of the interstate in stop and go traffic when it shut down.
I managed to get the truck rolling down the crown of the road and was able to push it into the break down lane. About 14,000lbs between the truck, hoses and pump.

The part that sucked, was I had to wait for my coworker I was following to go and deliver his load. Then unload the truck i was in, into his truck before we could get my truck towed. That was a long hot morning sitting on the side of the interstate with no shade or ac.
