Tractor
Deere zero turn
Hey guys, first post and need guidance in the purchase of my farm tractor. I have experience in commercial heavy equipment but want all info regarding my farm tractor purchase. I have a 14 acre plot with about 11 acres of pasture that needs to be brush hogged. Some steep areas so 4wd is a must…
Here is the list of questions and details i am working on:

HP rating and what size brush hog to go with it. Would like 6-7 foot if possible.
Brands which have good parts support for middle Tennessee.
Prefer pre emissions.
I’m an avid car and boat restoration guy so able to do several maintenance and repair tasks from my shop.
Hours I should consider on the vehicle based on how well it has been maintained.
I’m pretty much asking what you would do with a $21,000 budget living in my area with this land. I do need a loader.
Photo of land attached.
Post FB marketplace links if you want…..Ready to buy….

Many thanks..

$21k for what you need means you need to find a deal somewhere.

Used is always tricky. Best if you can find someone you know and trust that is wanting a new tractor and you can buy the old one.

Tight budget for a 4wd loader tractor capable of handling a 6-7' brush hog. I suspect you would want something in the 50hp area for medium brush and a 7' mower, perhaps 40hp with a 6'.

My personal opinions :
I prefer Kubota machines and have had many years of good service with them. Parts and service available most anywhere. There are obviously other quality brands like Kioti, Yanmar, and TYM that will cost less.
Make sure you know what you're buying, as a whole lot of "manufacturers" sell rebranded machines from various countries.
I have 1200 problem free hours on a DPF emissions tractor, so I wouldn't automatically discount them.

Good luck with your search.

Looked at the photos. Look at the rear tyre RIMS. Construction tyre rims are 1 piece and Ag tyres rims are 2 piece. 2peice rims can be adjusted wider for a more stabil tractor, especially doing loader work. Spacers are another opion to increace track width for stability.

Ballast: liquid filled rear tyres and or make your own 3ph ballast box/drum(see threads re ballast boxes)

Loader: ASK if the lift capasity is calculated at bucket pins(looks good on paper) or 18" in front of bucket pins(real world weight ).

Loader buckets:1) 4 in 1 buckets are heavy, you loose lift. regular buckets are lighter.
2) many here have commented that a fork is very useful and wish they had got it sooner.

SHED: how high is shed clearance and how high is tractor. (bigger tractor, concrete floor etc)

Ergonomics: are slightly different for each model. eg a straight elbow is tiring on loader work. slightlybent elbow is best.

Appreciate the replies. Seeing lots of choices in the 40 hp range and some in the 50hp. I’m reading the Kubota 41 handles a 6 foot brush hog pretty well.
I also see many Deere tractors are manufactured overseas and wondered about Kioti and Mahindra brands. I’m generally ok with overseas assembly but need parts availability.
Will reach out to my local groups regarding service and parts availability. I can handle most of the intermediate work but need to have access to spare parts like a water pump or similar.
Thanks…

What I see in the first picture is a steep slope with either a creek or some kind of drainage ditch at the base of the slope. What kind of equipment has been used in the past to mow that slope?

My concern is that a typical 45 hp tractor might roll over on that kind of slope.

Straight up and down with a similar tractor as I listed. (Filled tires)
I also run a large zero turn to keep it trimmed.
That’s why I was leaning towards the 50+hp with wider track front axles and taller front tires. Appreciate the input.

None of these are pre-emissions...

I would look for an older Kubota between 40-50HP if it were me.

I had 150a with most of it in woods with several open areas equal to your property. I bought a Kubota BX with all the attachments. I used all of them and it did the job. I later retired, bought some more land and upgraded my tractors to fill the needs of the new land.

I’d look at AGCO/Massey Ferguson & Deere, too.
