WinterDeere, when they unload the trailer, use the logs as stringers. No need to supply any.

I'm setting out some sad hemloc logs as cribs in anticipation of the load delivery. The spot is best served with "custom lengths". ;-)

Hey... just thought of something. What lengths do these guys deliver on log trucks? All of my space is set up for 15 footers, based on me owning a trailer with a 16 foot box, and 15 feet being the largest multiple of my stove cut length that will fit in that trailer. If they deliver much longer than 15 feet, I'm going to have to make some adjustments!

18-22 has been my experience. Might be a local thing.

Trucks are one thing, pup trailers are another//

Think of the tonage when encountering a loaded rig on the roadway! Dang, don't get on the wild side of a wreck with a loaded log hauler!

I can’t see paying for firewood logs or firewood for that matter. Firewood only sorta makes sense when it’s free. If you’re paying you might as well turn on the thermostat.

We are sympatico, brother. :ROFLMAO: I wish I could justify a processor like @shooterdon, but then I'd have to give up all pretense of this wood burning thing actually saving us money! :p With the tractor, wood sheds, chainsaws, forks, and specially-configured trailer, I'm already in deep!
I hear you. With the tractor (modified with limb risers, belly pan, grill guard and falling object protection), logging winch, forestry grapple, Metavic forwarding trailer, dump trailer, multiple chainsaws and probably some other toys tools I'm forgetting. I gave up pretending this was about saving money long ago.

I don't pay a gym membership/
I'm 73 yo, working up my winter's heat for the past 40 years. But felling, topping and cleaning up, 6 cords of fire wood is just a lot of work. It makes the $1000 a load seem like chump change.

And the same money into the oil burner would get me a couple of months.

Now don't get me wrong, I know the money I've spent on Splitters, Saws, tractors, wedges, mauls and wagons add up to be quite a sum, but....

It is my pleasure.

If it gets to be work, I'm done! ;-)

Our logs here in Michigan are just over 8’ long. Allows enough to get six 16” rounds after allows for saw kerf.

It depends. Do you have natural gas or propane? If you use electricity, what is your rate? Same for fuel oil.

One benefit of wood is I can stock a three year supply and not worry about pricing or supply.

I shop for logs and there is a lot of logging in my area. My last 80 logger cords were $7000. That will yield over 68 cords of firewood. Just over $100 a cord without investing time and resources felling, limbing, and transporting. “Free” firewood is never free.

8 feet?

Your loggers are only half the men that work here in New England!
