Are you insinuating that they know things that AI does not?
Not know but real life experience…

Vietnam and Cambodian refugees mowing lawns and clearing brush… came here with nothing… no English skills.

These same parents have UC grads in law, engineering and medicine… pretty impressive in one generation.

My Irish friends came as laborers in construction… framers, concrete, etc…

They got to know the suppliers 5 pooled the money to build a spec home working nights and weekends and had credit extended… 50 years later they live in the best neighborhoods in homes they built…

My paving friend came from Mexico and worked as labor picking up side jobs on weekends and holidays… 55 years later Ernesto has a large company with lots of city contracts for sidewalks and roads… his 3 grandsons run the field crews and his 2 sons estimate and daughter runs the office…

Each example arrived with nothing… the first 2 legal and not sure about the last…

My step grandfather left war torn Europe have a tool maker trade and uncle in Michigan…

He built a Union Tool and Die employing 50 men…

All of my examples made there own way… took the risks and put in the time…

Maybe American born are more risk adverse?

SO are you ready to buy lease an EV class 6 truck or a new EV dozer? Sounds like you guys are in the same place of trial and error.
How many EV fishing boats are on trial? Sure the governments can spend money on dreams how many small businesses are doing it?
I'm not against change but against mandated change with out a proven solution in hand.
Our problem here is that the old grid (station and lines) can not cope the new loads being forced upon it. Many places ask the population to conserve electricity during high usage yet we want to double or quadruple needs with NO plan for upgrading the distribution system, the cost of which will dwarf the cost of generating more.
Many of us here live more spread out than most of the world and don't want be herded into cities. The distances involved are not imaginable to people used to being able to drive across their country in a day.
The plan that most developed counties are working toward is to plan for future that uses less fossil fuel ie not ban ICE vehicles but to stop producing them by 2035 so ten more years of selling them then maybe another twenty years of using them after sales of new ones stop. Giving Manufactures time to develop alternatives and build infrastructure if poor third world countries can do it so can USA

California is going one better… refineries giving notice of intent to close…

We may have 8-10 dollar gas in the future which could spur EV sales but only if PGE is more attractive than gas.

My post is NOT political, it is just common sense that needs to be enacted towards the ignorance of many among us.

Any state that bans anything diesel, well, then ban all vehicle`s going into these chit-hole states with services and goods.

STARVE THE STUPID OUT OF EXISTENCE! Watch how fast this chit will correct itself. Imagine a world with no stupid people.

We`re getting closer to a time where we will not be the UNITED states much longer. Shall we have 50 countries instead of states?

Is there are big push to upgrade power gen and distribution systems in NZ. If you go the EV direction you will need to double if not quadruple those capacities. Here we see planned truck charging stations not being build because the local utility has NO way to provide the amount of power required to those locations since often is requires more power than their entire system uses today.
3rd world counties can dream and bankrupt their population but that does not make it right or feasible.

I like options and use what works best for me, I use wood heat because I have the resource on hand. Electric is installed but useless during an ice storm or flooding. Propane is expensive but I keep a few a couple hundred gallons in the tank just in case. Mandate for just electric would be ignored by me. My substation is 30 miles with lots of trees and creeks crossing the single power line, no secondary path and when the creeks get rolling or we get ice many miles power are kaput. Being on the few residents out here we are very very low on the priority list of our small coop.

I wish you the best but I'm a realist

Take a look at EV busses, the track record is dismal. Here is one example you can find them from all over world. We have a ways to go to make heavy diesel fleets work on batteries, diesel electric would work today.

How much tax payer money wasted, how many Companies have gotten into that game and then go bankrupt without ever providing a working product?
The USPS just lost how much on EV delivery vehicles that are never going to be delivered?

Albuquerque tried electric buses. It was on the news when they caravanned them back to California...with tow trucks being every 5th or so vehicle in the line.

I think the issue is really island nations with limited energy resources. It makes perfect sense that renewables, or nuclear would be the best energy choice. It again comes down to the best energy choice for the situation and not mandating a "one size fits all".
Except that NZ came up with an anti nuclear doctrine a long time ago.

That's their prerogative. Then they better get working on their preferred energy source.
I worked on a project years ago, where an island had windmills provide their base electrical power. During the evenings, when power demand was down, the excess electrical power then powered electrolysis for hydrogen generation. The hydrogen was then used in the mobile fleet on the island.

The numbers never worked out, but it was an ingenious attempt and still worthy of research.
