These two brothers have been coming through here for a while, so we get to see them get bigger and their antlers grow in.

Went for a hike and a swim at Powell lake in the emigrant wilderness (not to be confused with Lake Powell in UT)
Before moving to Texas, some buddies and I were trying to find a new place to go deer hunting in CA. We thought that if we could find a remote area of the Emigrant Wilderness, we'd find some decent sized bucks. For a few years, we backpacked in everywhere we could find on a map that didn't look like there was a trail or campsite. We saw lots of deer, lots of bucks, but nothing very big.

The only time I ever saw a mountain lion was while camping along a creek where we could glass the side of an open ridge. An hour before dark, the deer started showing up. There might have been two dozen out feeding, and then all of a sudden, every single one of them vanished. They didn't run off; they were just gone!!! It was very odd, and while trying to figure out where they went, we spotted the mountain lion. It was off to the left and walking across the side of the ridge right where the deer had been feeding. It wasn't in a hurry, just casually walking along. It seemed to move across the ridge very quickly, and then it was gone. Within a minute of it walking out of view, when we looked back to where it had come from, all the deer were out feeding again.

This was back in the late 1990s.
