Good Morning.
80° and humid out there, thunderstorms on their way.

Yesterday was another inside day, spent a lot of time scanning aircraft logbooks. Did a few outside chores, but nothing significant.
The goal for today is to see how much mowing I can get done before the rain.
Supposed to play music tonight, but that’s all that is planned.

Good morning, the temperature now is 55 and going up to 70°F. Wind NNE 8 mph. Sunny.

While I was doing my morning 'thing', I heard the furnace running. That in itself told me it was cooler outside.
We keep the thermostat at 76° year round.

Dump and town run today, then depending on how bad the bugs are will maybe turn the compost and wood piles.

Could use one of Rons Cranes here to clean up the toad population. I try not to run them over with the mower, they are beneficial, just not to me.

Went to bed early last night, 0200 hrs, got up at 0700 hrs. It looks like I get 5 hours a night whether I need it or not.;)

I've got a cat hollering at me that wants to go out, so I better get on with my day.

Have a safe day all

Morning all, 77 going to 83 and sunny, calling for lots of rain.
Hot and humid , but I still went out and pulled quite a bit of stiltgrass growing up through the ornamental grass out front. Got a big pile of it, the stuff grows so fast.

That's about it for me, day job is busy.

Be well,

Before, can barely see the ornamental grass, 3rd time pulling the stiltgrass this year.

Hot and humid again. I've given up looking at thermometers and the humidity...I just wait for the grass to dry and alternate days of mowing or string trimming for the last 2 weeks....and kick in some hiking every other day.

Bupps, nice Precious pix. Della still likes to do zoomies.

Ken, I admire you for fighting that stiltgrass...I just mow mine, along with the terrible takeover by Virginia Bottonweed. I think the buttonweed can even take over the stiltgrass.

Met a school bus driver on the trail yesterday. She drives for the Loudoun VA school district. She had parked her school bus at the Civil War battlefield park, so I though a school group was out hiking and reading the historical markers describing the battle...nope...she had dropped them off at the Kings Dominion amusement park for the day, and was hiking solo while she waited. The kids are in a county Parks and Rec "day camp" and once a week they go to KD. She lives in Maryland near the Appalachian Trail and hikes there a lot. Loudoun has really nice buses, if this one was typical.

Thomas, not fair that you have so many things at once...leaving your job, hurting your foot, and having to give up the smooth cigars all in the same month.

Our last big t-storm blew rain hard sideways from the north, and I found out some of the gaskets on my north side windows were leaking. They are nice Andersen casement windows, but 27 years old...I've found in the past that bugs will wiggle into the gasket seam and compromise it until given a good cleaning.

So, I worked on windows, even though I was letting in 95 degree/95% humidity air. I also decided to replace the gaskets and waterbars, starting with the worst two, just to make sure I ordered the right parts, since their website is not completely clear, and that I can do it successfully...ordered enough parts to get free shipping. Will take over a week to ship. Odd these days to find delivery times this slow.

Kyle, celery is one of my favorite foods. I tried for years to grow it in my garden as a kid, but learned it doesn't like our weather.

Stilt grass is nasty, takes over everything. That reminds me I need to mow the stilt across the creek

Nice pup pic buppies.

Was 99% humidity when I looked this morning.
Sprayed sevin on cantaloupe plant stem, and beans. Seems it’s very tiny bugs that drilled holes in the stem that killed the first plant,, and started to kill the 2nd until I sprayed it.
This was after digging 1 row of potatoes. Little bigger potatoes this year than last. After 1 row I was beat, 3 to go, got 1 1/4 buckets.
Relaxing now to cool off.

66.9F with steady rain @ 11:00, calling for a high of only 69F with more rain throughout the day.

Severe Thunderstorm Alert issued last night around 01:00, not really much in the way of thunder or lightning, but did have a couple of periods of heavy rain lasting 10 - 15 minutes each.

Gauge showing we've picked up another 1.25" since yesterday when I emptied it.

I got rest of the bird food put away, the hopper feeder refilled, and scattered some seeds for the ground feeders first thing yesterday. Still need to refill the one suet feeder.

Then got some mulch spread yesterday plus another 7 bucket loads of mulch hauled down for the arborvitae. As well as some glyphosate spraying around the edges.

Was pretty miserable (hot and steamy) at that point so decided to mow the front since it needed it and they were calling for rain today.

Cub was low on fuel though so that necessitated a trip down to the corner for another 5 gallons of gas.

Decided to run down to the garden center and pick up another 2 bales of straw for the upcoming grass seeding while I was out.

Got Cub refueled when I got back and then started mowing.

Amazon came by with the wireless phone charger while I was mowing. It's an Amazon Basics ... seems to work well so far.

Got front lawn finished after taking a break for dinner. Had a couple of cold meatloaf sandwiches which hit the spot.

Then started on mowing the compost/woodlot.

It had clouded up by that point and was starting to spit rain on and off so I didn't get that finished but I was able to get the low areas done which would stay wet if it rained.

After that I collected a 5' long piece of 1/2" rebar and used that to stake the redbud tree over on the west side that had been damaged last year by a buck rubbing on it. It's probably going to need some more work on the wound (a split of the trunk) to save it.

Also cleaned/washed out one of those small grey Rubbermaid trash cans I use to store bird seed. It had a dead mouse in it when I opened it up and was stinking pretty badly.

Last evening after it had dried I loaded the sunflower seeds in shell into it. The seeds will be used to set traps for chipmunks, which seem to be intent on digging in The Woman's potted plants and munching on things in the garden.

Pumpkin plants on the back trellis now all have fruits except for the big guy.

Calling for the rain to continue until around 17:00 or 18:00 so pretty much going to be an inside day.

Going to work on getting the summer squash processed and into the freezer, maybe work on making those kosher dills depending on how long the squash takes.

Otherwise just see what comes up.

Hope everyone is having a decent Thursday ... (y)
