Greetings. Curious on others thoughts between a dealer offered 125 hour used Kubota BX23s for $22k cash out the door vs a NH WS25S - for $18.7k OTD. The NH it a 2023 model but new on the lot from same Kubota dealer (who is very close and very good).

I have a smaller piece of land that most here, only 1.5 acres. Not going to mow, all land is semi hillside rocky desert Arizona. I had a Bx23s a couple years ago for Phase I to move 30 dump trucks full of rock/soil for fill, leveling/grading, and moving and stacking 20-30 (300-400lb)boulders for retaining walls and landscaping. I thought I was done with the project and sold the Kubota. I loved it's reliability and maneuverability.

I've now decided I'm not done lol and there needs to be a phase 2, similar kind of work but I'll be cutting and filling some of the high spots on the other side of lot to level for a small horse motel/shed and fill the lows for small/roadway. There will be more boulders to move and retaining walls. I also would just like to have a tractor to help others in the neighborhood.

The new old stock NH / LS for $18.7k with all the full new warranty and seemingly great online reviews from a great close dealer seems like a no lose offer, but the Kubota for $3300 more is still tugging at me. I sat on both again and both seem fine to me.

Only thing I didn't like about the Kubota I had before was the loader lift left me wanting as it was slightly lacking for some of the boulders I needed to get 4 ft off the ground to stack. I can get the NH with pin on or QA, so thinking pin on for slightly more lift. My previous Kubota was QA but believe I can get the Kubota in question with pin on as well.

I probably need even a more powerful tractor than either of these for cutting into native desert rocky terrain but a bigger tractor simply won't work for driving in this particular lot. Also it's not solid rock that I'll be digging into...more of hard packed first foot of crust then powdery with lots of junky rocks. Need low center of gravity given the lot characteristics.

What do the experts think - which of these two? Something else?
I've ruled out others for now just because of availability, price, or the dealer, or I didn't like them the first time I was tractor shopping.

The Kubota is a better deal. A little more "out of pocket" to begin with, yes, but the price difference/savings will disappear quickly in frustration and aggravation with the New Holland in short order.

All I can offer is I really always wanted to like New Holland because I love and have an old Ford. But I tried to buy a new New Holland many years ago and all the dealers in Ontario really turned me off.
Now currently I have friends that are farmers and ranchers that have brand new 75 horse NH and Farmalls and they are all having issues and dealers are useless.
Maybe it's just all our dealers up here?

If you have a good dealer at least that little NH has quality components like a Yanmar engine.

But for me, my Kubota's have been absolutely trouble free after years of service and the thing I like about Kubota is everything in the tractor is made by Kubota. So if there is an issue....it's THEIR issue.

Did you try the NH 25S? I had read reviews say they have a lot of vibration?

I've got to throw my hat in for the Kubota as well. I like New Holland, and the Workmaster 25S is a nice little subcompact tractor, but I am under the impression the BX23S is a sturdier TLB- and that's what you're really using the machine for.

A few grand more for a machine that, new, would not be close in price.

I agree. No matter how nice the other one is, the Kubota is a work-proven TLB built for heavy work. If you look back through the history, Kubota has made that same little TLB with only minor changes for 10 years. Considering the difference in new price, the Kubota still seems the better deal.

I tend to agree with you guys about the Kubota being proven more reliable, etc...but given the same great dealer carries both and he speaks very highly of the NH/LS, and says they have had very little problems with them, I was leaning that way. Still undecided, appreciate the input.

Am I seeing a pattern here?

Today's New Holland and yesteryear's Ford are not the same animal.

I too would pick the Kubota of those two options ...

Don't you wonder why he hasn't been able to sell a BRAND NEW tractor in over two years?

The NH is built by LS also ...

My Massey Ferguson dealer also sells Mahindra ... When I went tractor shopping back in spring of 2022, he didn't even mention Mahindra ... But he has quite a few on the lot.
