Tractor
kubota
I mixed about a gal. of Rotella SAE 40 into my low on my hydro fluid Kubota L3200. The oil was supposed to go in back hoe attachment. About a month ago I changed hydraulic fluid and filter in the tractor (found out hydraulic fluid is very expensive) Tractor is 2011 with 374 hrs. and when purchased it was 184 hrs. but never serviced. Am I in deep doodoo? My excused is I'm 78 years old and a retired teacher (chem and physics) shoulda known better.

Is it a gear or HST? If gear, I probably wouldn't worry about it.

If it's an HST, I would change the fluid out if it was my personal tractor

I use the same 1 gallon oil filling can between hydro and engine oil without cleaning it out between, but that's about as far as I go with cross "contamination".
I suspect 1 gallon of engine oil in 10 gallons(?) of hydro oil would not be that big a deal, but I would still drain and refill. I very seriously doubt you will get a definitive answer either way.

It’s a shame to do it but I’d dump the fluid and put new along with a new filter.

How much oil does the tranny hold on that tractor? If 10 gallons like mentioned I would be far less concerned than if it only held 3 or 4 gallons.

I wouldn't worry much about it. Personally, I get tired of all the comments I see involving "change the fluid and filter(s)" every time a hydraulic question is asked or a problem mentioned. Lots ex spurts out there who swear by that, even when they can't see the tractor, the oil, or the problem. (if there is one)

As always, your tractor, your money, your choice. I would save the money, add a little more of the right fluid so it's JUST over full, run it like that until it needs more.

I appreciate everyone's replies. What I'm going to do is drain 1 Quart from each side of the hydraulic reservoir and see what happens. I welcome any and all comments.

More like just over 7gal, but he said it was a gal low, so closer 6gal.

Without knowing compatability of the fluids its a gamble, it might be fine, it might cause damage, guess it just depends on a person's risk tolerance.

If it was me, the couple hundred to change it out would be worth it to know its right.

What does the normal service interval call for? My Kioti calls for a hydraulic oil change at 400 hours. So you are right there.

The specs on my older Kioti don't call for anything special. I just use travelers from TSC. A little 40 weight isn't going to hurt that. But my newer Kubota calls for the super UDT sauce and has a small 3 gallon reservoir. I would bite the bullet and change it on that little tractor. 3 gallons isn't going to force me to sell the farm...
