By the way, even though I can never tell anyone what brand of welder it is because I can't pronounce the name, it works pretty slick. And that's without a chance to practice yet. My 3 small test beads were better than my best when I first learned 40ish years ago.

Soooo, I finally got to try your suggestions to help me with my un-pronouncible welder. It's not in the manual, so apparently we're born with the knowledge, that I didn't get in my dna. You must pull the wire feed trigger to make it work. Thanks for the help all (he said embarrassingly).

Umm. No. I had 5/8 in of wire sticking out so didn't pull the trigger. Is that required for arc? My old mig would spark with touching the wire and as it started to burn you hit the feed trigger. Jumpin' jeebus. Could it be that simple?
