I miss the Spectrum. Looking back all these years later, I don't know if it really was the best concert venue ever built, or if we just loved it because of all the memories. It was a great size for a concert, and man... that place rocked when a band lit it up.

Jessica has to be one of the greatest guitar instrumental songs ever recorded, IMO.

You Know You Are Old When

Same here. On those rare occasions mom said, "wait for your father to come home," you knew you were in real trouble. Mom did break a long wooden spoon on my rear, once. Those things hurt!

... and therein lies a big difference. If restrictions were upon the property prior to purchase, it's hard to argue anything is being taken away. Europe has a very different legacy than here, transitioning generally from fiefdoms and monarchies, before interruption by the land redistribution...

You Know You Are Old When

That was our rule… pretty much year-round, if I recall.

    Deere 755

Never seen a 650, but the 750 was solid. I got rid of it because it was a 4wd machine with a relatively heavy loader, and lacked power steering, which was really hard on my elbows and shoulders. The non-removable loader was also a hassle, when using it for aerating or fertilizing the lawn...

My experience with this comes primarily from 1990's Germany, and I know it's forever changing. But back then, it was very hard to get rural space re-zoned for building. Basically, if you wanted to build a home, you had to buy a lot within defined city, town, or village borders. Builders were...

    Deere 755

You may be right. I also owned a 1978'ish Deere 750, before the 1986 Deere 855, and I know for a fact that was made by Yanmar. It's possible all these years later, that my mind conflated the two. These are all very old machines, and I don't own any of them anymore, ancient history.

. I did the Global Pass with TSA Pre-Check thing years ago, and just keep renewing. My own special security line, keeping my shoes and belt on and laptop in the bag... and I get to self-declare and completely bypass incoming US Customs line. You have to pay up front, and go to a Homeland...

You Know You Are Old When

We had two sets, one with that gold design, the other plain. And yes, mom is still using them after nearly 60 years, and probably hasn't broken but a few in all that time.

    Deere 755

Note the 855 MFWD in my avatar, that was my prior tractor. These x55's were all introduced ca.1986, made by Yanmar for Deere. They were good little CUT's for their time, great even, but they've been out of production for more than 30 years now. Deere does a great job of making parts...

So, here's the issue, I think. Our distances are long, compared to Europe, and we don't have enough interest or aversion to risk (litigation) to support conversion to 350 km/hr through our neighborhoods and cities. So, travel by rail is painfully slow and long, meaning extreme discomfort to do...

You Know You Are Old When

You just reminded me that our drinking glasses when I was a kid were a similar promo. I'm pretty sure they came from Burger King, with the Looney Toons character on one side and BK logo on the other, but Warner Bros had licensed this imaging to so many companies in the early 1970's that they...
