    Welding Corrugations

I welded 2 pieces of 1/8" sheet together today and ended up with one of them with more corrugations than I want. I welded each end, then went to the middle and worked to one end with 4" welds then skip a foot and another 4" weld until I got to the end then back to the middle and worked to the...

    turning hay into silage

Around here the farmers & ranchers have been making round and square bales for years. This year it looks like they've added silage to the list. They cut the hay and pile it up and pack it down with the tractor. I've never seen it used for beef cattle before, but no reason I know of why it can't...

    Compressed air on pickup

There was a thread about compressed air on pickups. Here's what I did to put it on my F250. The mounting pad I built out of the C purlin material left over from my barn to match existing holes in the truck's frame. The compressor, tank and relay are from VIAIR with fittings from various sources...

    Fire extinguisher mount

I've just added a fire extinguisher to my tractor. Couldn't mount it on the ROPS since I couldn't reach it from the ground, so I put it on the fender. Here's the metal I started with which is left over from building the barn. The bracket mounted and with the extinguisher in place.

    Road Roller

For those of you who have built a roller, how do you ensure the axle is centered in the ends of the tube? I plan to use a section of steel pipe (24" to 30" diameter) and weld plate to the ends. How acurately does the axle have to be centered? Does it really matter since it is rotating relatively...

    Cow poop

I've been reading articles (not necessarily current ones) about dairies up around the Waco, Texas area and how the manure is affecting the watershed so the dairies have to compost the manure and so on. Also saw where the Waco residents can get small quantities for their gardens. Anyone know...

    Loader moves by itself

I have a JD 5055e with a 533 loader. When I raise the bucket and let go of the handle, I expect it to return to neutral. But it does not. The bucket keeps raising until it hits the stops or I push the loader handle back to neutral. This does not seem right. Is it? The dealer replaced the valve...

    Oil Disposal

I used to collect used oil in 5 gal buckets and take those in to the local auto parts store for recycling. Now that I have more machines, multiple 5 gallon buckets don't seem to be enough to hold the oil so I'm thinking about a big tank or something. But, what do you do with it then? I really...

    Joining 8 gauge wire

I'm planing the wiring layout for my barn. I need to run 8 gauge wire to 3 different locations with the wire run to the closest point being 80' from the breaker panel. I'd like all 3 points to be on the same circuit since I will only be drawing from one point at a time. In order to keep the wire...

What's next step after a rollover?

I got a call about 8:30 this morning that my tractor had been rolled. Fortunately no one got hurt and there is only superficial damage as far as I can tell. A little bent sheet metal and some leaked battery acid. However, I can't tell if anything happened internally. The shops are closed until...

    Reuse hydraulic hose?

If a hose has been placed in service and has had oil run thru it, if it needs to be made shorter can the end be cut off and a new one put on, or does the oil make it to slippery for the fitting to hold onto, meaning I'd need to replace the hose.

    Snowblower drive

Those of you with snowblowers, how are they driven? Do you have a shaft from the PTO running under the tractor to drive the auger and the fan or is it a hydraulic motor? If it's a hydraulic motor where is the oil coming from? Do you use a pto powered pump or the remote valves of the tractor?
