Update: I found the leak, when I pulled off the head, the block had no coolant. So I dropped the pan and filled the block with water, as soon as I turned the engine I saw water pool around the bottom of the sleeve and then noticed the whole sleeve moved slightly when the piston was moving...
I just need to dig in and get the head off again, and with all the travel I have been doing makes it hard.
If someone had the block decked with the old sleeves... and I replaced the sleeves... seems like that could have gone unnoticed.
Hopefully I can tear it apart this weekend.
There were some slight scratches, nothing I would consider major, especially for it to be leaking while just sitting. The coolant would get about .5 inch lower/day untill you could not see it past the fins. That's a constant internal drip without being heated up or under pressure, and it's not...

Can I start my engine with no hydraulic fluid? Or would that cause damage, just want to make sure everything is good and I would hate to have to drain it again.
I'm gonna guess grinding the gears a few good times will put a little bit of metal shavings in the case bottom when you take out the screen?

I have read the wet sleeves get painted with an oil based paint and put in wet. Any thoughts on color and thermal properties? I only have black oil based paint on hand, the point of the sleeve is to pull heat from the cylinder, would black make that harder?

I removed the cam and forgot to pull the cam followers out, rolled the engine and they all fell out of the guides.
I see the intake and exhaust guilds are a different part number, but are the followers any different? Visually they all seem the same, unless maybe the depth of the rod sits...
