Got a question... Can part of the steel fuel line going to the lift pump be repaced with rubber fuel line? Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone, I replaced a fuel filter on my MF 231 and put in the new "O" rings, and can not get the filter to quit leaking at the top, and at the glass base. Anybody have any suggestions? THANKS!
