    Metal Roof questions... 2019.

30 x 30 on gravel, two horses - soffits under eaves 1st and 2nd floor, gable vents both ends, cupola eave vents Metal is on 2x4's on rafters. The windows are always closed, horse door is always open. Nothing fancy. We store hay on the 2nd floor. Hay bales stored in the spare stall will mold...

Ford Tractor photo thread, lets start one!

Old pic from the 1960's. Our ford hooked to our spreader by the ramp. When we cleaned the dairy barn, we'd push a wheelbarrow full of manure up to dump it into the spreader. I found this piece of a photo - didn't realize I had it. Good memories of that tractor.

Now you are getting older - what don't you do?

As I age, I do less. But that has really picked up in the last year due to my shortness of breath and O2 usage. Last fall we bought a used Fisher HD plow for the truck. It works well. Just last week the battery was dead - wan't shut down properly. Of course this was the week I caught my wife's...

    Horse barn? Time,etc?!?

Move on - tell them you are going to with a deadline and if they show up good. If not find someone else. Horses need company, at least a pony. One horse will be too lonely. Also plan to build them a run-in in barn with wide doors- that you can close up into stalls. They like the run - in. My two...

Best way to route/trench water with an ATV?

I've done a lot of trenching drainage ditches with my mini backhoe. I found the best way was to pay attention to the slope of the drainage ditch, always making sure that the drainage ditch was dropping as it went along - to keep the water flowing. This was important where it cut into other...

    Anvil and blacksmithing

There is always a way to get the tools together if you work at it. A brake drum forge is straight forward to make. (on you tube. The hole in the center has 3 bars welded across to let the air in and keep the coal in the forge. You can use black pipe for the air inlet on fold and weld on your own...

    Call me crazy...silo question

We moved two small wooden silos as a kid. We still had an original foundation. Found a silo that fit it - tongue + groove vertical planking cut at an angle. All hardwood I think. 2" planks? We had staging all around it and the metal hoops were level and were tightened slowly to bring it all...

Mud in Front of the Barn issues

Our two horses enter the barn through the same door we do. Their feet mix the sawdust, manure, in with the dirt and it can get pretty thick. There is a slope to get into the barn and a crosscutting drainage slope fifteen feet from the doorr as well. It still gets mucky. I find the solution is...
