    Goats for a clean pond?

"And just electric is not enough you need a solid fence. They will walk right through just electric." To test a fence for goat-proofiness, toss a bucket of water at it. If the water goes through, so will the goats. Goats will catch their horns in 4x6 galvanized panel. You'll need 4x4. If a kid...

    Goats for a clean pond?

Look at paintings of beautifully landscaped areas from back in the 17th and 18th centuries. Ask yourself how they got their lawnmowers in there from the 20th century. Then remember sheep. You'll wonder how to contain your sheep. Check out Electric Fence, Ear Tags, Sheep & Goat Equipment...

Quick question about Fords pro back up assist.

Don't worry. Look at the occasional video of them backing a boat trailer into the water and then (!!) uncoupling the trailer (!!) and trying to use the boat, still on the trailer, at any speed beyond 3 kts. They'll make other mistakes, too, and finally will give up or (as we say in the horse...

Quick question about Fords pro back up assist.

I have a very safe method for teaching people how to back a trailer. Tell 'em to back a small trailer that's attached to a riding lawnmower. An error instantly become a jackknife but nobody gets hurt. The most difficult way to do backing is to have someone yelling instructions at you. "Now cut...

    Better Lynch Pin?

Every damn thing about working with farm equipment is trying to injure or kill us. We all know all the ways to be safe and careful, and we do that, and we still get hurt. Even our calm and gentle horses can suddenly step on our toes.

What is it with all the distracted driver lately.

Hauling my horse trailer at 45 mph in a 45 zone on a regular two-lane road without safe passing areas, suddenly there's someone passing me through an S curve where you cannot even see oncoming traffic. No bad results, fortunately. Perhaps it would be a good idea for EVERYBODY to take the CDL...

    lynch pin alternative

You were lucky. It could have been worse. Our friend was in the basement of his own home and someone was mowing nearby. The mower picked up a rock, it went through the basement window, and took out his eye.

Kioti DS4110 won't start after refuel

Got that with our 1992 Cummins D250 pickup. The solenoid is what shuts off the engine. No volts to it, engine stops. The wire to the solenoid was loose. I crunched the hard-to-reach connector with pliers. Hasn't failed again, but holding my breath. Hate intermittents. Give me a solid failure!

How Do I Repair my Fencing?

I'd agree with "leave 'em as they are but add wire mesh" unless you train your sheep and goats to respect electric fence, which should be easy to add. Sheep will try to go under. Goats will go over if you are in the habit of tossing loose kids back over the fence, because they'll learn, "Goats...

    RK55HC Reverse Alarm location

Backup alarms are easily a hazard. Some people upon hearing a loud and obnoxious noise cover their ears and close their eyes. Also, it's hard to know the direction that a single-tone alarm sound is coming from. Where is that sound? "I don't know. It's inside my head. Shut it off!"

How do farmers make any money?

If grass or weeds grow under the panels you've got to mow. Or instead you could keep sheep to do the mowing. Science-fiction writer Philip K. Dick wrote "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep." Voila!

How do farmers make any money?

Those black snakes, if they were the kind I think they were, are pretty much harmless except to rats. They ate the rats. A neighbor was about to kill a black snake and my wife picked it up and took it home. "It'll eat the rats," she said. All the guys at my neighbor's place were terrified of...

Tractor in shop for 100 days

It's important to keep in mind that a failing dealership might just possibly go suddenly out of business, with the result that everything in the service department vanishes. The owners of the business may vanish. We lost a JD 1050 that way.

I need to make good use of 20 acres in Oklahoma.

Good horsey people (we are one of those) also keep sheep and goats or even cattle. If the horses won't eat it, those extra-stomach folks can handle it just fine. Our hay guy likes us because we don't quibble about anything. He delivers and stacks (!!) good Coastal hay at about $7. We're down at...

    Home electrical

Here's a good explanation of why removing that knob (not "know" damn spell correction I bet) created a shocking situation. Those radios are damned dangerous. https://antiqradio.com/post_antique-radio-safety-understanding-the-dangers-of-a-hot-chassis.html Also, not mentioned in that link, is one...
