When we headed back to NM from the train ride and we headed back to 522, over in the distance there was a what we thought were smaller deer with large white spots on them. Saw them before somewhere, thought perhaps goats at first, but on this drive, we both thought they were deer because they...

Two weeks out there, saw a bear, a bunch of wild turkey to my surprise, various species of deer and even a porcupine to my added surprise (don't ask me why, never thought to see those two out west). Saw elk in California last year, but nothing in Colorado and NM on this visit though. Go figure....

Don't have much history with Elk, but I guess it's no different than a moose. You hit a moose driving somewhat fast, survival rate for those in the vehicle doing the hitting isn't so great...

Sorry, more dumb questions so we are on the same page... See below. The blue arrows are the path the elk and deer would walk up, and then jump "down" onto the other side of the fence? With the logs at the bottom of the dirt mount, are the "spikes" (in red" so the log wouldn't roll downhill...

I guess I'm the only one?

When I try to access a thread that I've been on, this is what comes up (see below). Note, I can't even upload a screenshot. Am I the only one?

But why the dirt built up on the road side and having it open at the top and the logs at the bottom of the dirt with what almost look like spikes? Never seen it done like that before. I wanted to get out of the car and look at it closer but my wife wasn't appreciative of stopping the car off...

One last dumb question (I hope). Going west from Ft Garland in Colorado from New Mexico on 160 west (going towards I-25) I believe the state was actually building some fence lines. Building the fence line (on both sides of 160) they were building these in so many increments on the fence...

Believe me, we both appreciated that tip on Colorado Springs, but man, if it's worse going from Colorado Springs to Golden north vs going all the way to Denver, I would really hate to see what it's like going back and forth into Denver. I see your point on the Albuquerque airport, but since...

The one thing that struck me about Santa Fe is I was surprised that the total population was around 90,000 people (thought it would be larger) and the fact that I really didn't see any "tall buildings". More surprisingly after looking only now, Albuquerque is the largest city in NM with a...

We were wondering about building codes in Santa Fe. You travel to Charleston or Savanah (old local east coast cities) and I know for a fact that the zoning board rules with a iron fist on what you can and can't do, as the city wants to preserve it's historical buildings. High velocity HVAC...

I get it being raised Russian Orthodox. Luckily the priest I use to be an altar boy for met my girlfriend at the time and agreed to marry us in my church, even though she wasn't Russian Orthodox. The current priest I know would never allow that.

Will also note, if you visit Santa Fe from out of state, best bet is staying at a local hotel that offers parking, because finding any parking was was bugger. I'm assuming the it's allowed to park at the visitor center? That's were we ended up parking, and then walking back after walking...

Thank you for that info, would never have known. I just know when we both read the "ad" for a $5 fee, it turned us off coming into a "church". That said, we could have missed the sign stating it wasn't an active church. It makes more sense now... I did look at one website, would be curious...

We stopped by We went it, but in all honesty found the church's method of soliciting beyond being tacky. That said, I guess they deal with to many cheap bas****s who wouldn't donate $5 to the church and wanted to look at the stair case LOL...

Thank you, that train ride was one of the highlights of our trip. Best train trip ever. I did find it confusing though staying in NM and having to drive to Colorado to start the train ride because it would be shorter than driving to New Mexico starting the trip. But the lady at the railroad...
