Where are the best places in the southeast US to look for a 2 ton+ chinese mini-ex?

For a chinee one? I'd start by looking in the dump or junk yard. For moving logs you will probably be unhappy with a 2 ton. I have a 4 ton and wish it was about twice as big but it has done the job. Pop always said you can move a mountain with a tea spoon if you have the time and patience.

    Hydraulic question

It is possible but not very practical. I built my diverter valve using a solenoid selector valve and fittings to make the manifold. Cost less than $200 as I recall for all of it but that was in '19 BB and CI. Before Biden and Covid Insanity.

How to break loose the cylinder

I see you broke it with money. Lesson learned but may not apply in this case: Always look for some kind of locking device under the seals on the piston end. For example, JCB uses a locking pin under the seals. It is a bear to get out but the piston will not move from the rod until you get...

    Suggestions for 40-50 hp class

I have a Farmall 50A gear utility tractor with shuttle shift, press the clutch, tap the brake, pause and shift. I use the snot out of it because it is a little power house and always handy. I even use it to feed cows with a big round bale on each end and leave the cab tractor in the barn. I...

    Hydraulics qustion

Not hard if you know what you are doing and have the ports on the tractor. One of mine needed a power beyond spool and the other was a CaseIH kit that just bolted on. One was cheap and the other about $650. Guess which one.

    best landplane

Old thread. I have a 12' unit we call a fresno. A box blade with a drawbar tongue and two rear wheels lifted with a hydraulic cylinder. Mine has two, one for lift and one for tilt. It is made by an outfit I guess in Mexico, Industrias Americas, see their stuff everywhere. I pull it with a...

    hydrostatic pump education

The charge pump has to have enough RPM to keep the suction pressure to the main pump up.

    80" of snow this week.

Better thee than me!! We had 8 to 10 inches and it brought the place to a screeching halt until it melted the second day. Happy I don't live any further north. Can't decide if it is snow and cold or 105 and steamy summers that are the worst. I do know age makes both worse!

Where to buy hydraulic cylinder seal kits

Seals are mostly just seals. OEMs usually do not have seals custom molded but instead go to an outfit like Greene Tweed and get as set of off the shelf seal stack and fit the piston and rod to that standard dimension. I go to a hydraulic shop that rebuilds cylinders and sells parts. I take...

    Another diesel question

Nothing at all. Did it all the time when in the Rockies or Alaska.

    Complexity and Reliability

Is trading old and worn for new fangled with lots of bells and whistles I don't think I need or will ever use really a step up or down? I am not getting younger. Though I don't have money to blow I have been thinking of upgrading some of my old equipment. Specifically my Schaeff SKL 831...

    Is this normal?

After having a peek at several of the posts today I am further convinced that tribal knowledge of things mechanical has nearly come to an end for many and does not exist at all for some. You don't ride clutches they aren't speed controllers, black stacking under load is normal for diesels you...

How much do you care about pre emissions

This is why I drive old vehicles and do what it takes to keep them until I can't. The emissions crap is just too complicated amounting to being over tuned. Most other bells and whistles are way over complicated. If you have wiring and microprocessors you will have problems. The neighbor just...

74 hp skid vs 74 hp hoe for building tiny acreage?

No doubt the Cummins is a good engine but I would not get hung up on it, there are others and it puts you in the category of a pretty large piece of equipment if your place is small. I wouldn't get hung up on it. If you get a machine that doesn't have a computer, DEF or regen a diesel is a...

74 hp skid vs 74 hp hoe for building tiny acreage?

I don't usually reply to these debates, just a waste of time and a whole lot of opinioneering. One post that said to make a list of what you want to do and candidate machines to see what fits best is a good suggestion. You did not say how big your place is and what else you want to do. I have...
