If memory serves the way to check what kind of shape your glow plugs are in is to do a resistance check with an ohm metre check and make sure power is getting to them first.....it may be a pooched controller...

You should have had these powder coated after the hinges were welded on....or ground the powder coat off before welding the hinges on. The welder should have known to grind that crap off though
