Long story short, sucked up garden hose in tiller. Tied some off onto a tree and was able to pull some of it out. Any suggestions other than sharp knife and digging the hose out of the mud/muck in the tiller?

My L2850 tachometer is not working. At high rpms it barely bounces off of zero. The hour meter is working. Does the tach cable drive both the hour meter and tach? Any thoughts on repairs? Many thanks for any help! Add: it is a mechanical tach- I see the replacement tach cable in the manual.
