Good point about the SCV's. I got 4 in the rear and 3 in the middle. The 4th in the rear is via 2 long hoses running to the mid SVCs (3rd function). I have a 3 way hydraulic blade and also a hydraulic top link, so I needed a total of 4 and my model was only offered with a max of 3.
I was...
I keep my shop at 62F during the winter (lowest setting the mini splits will do). So that helps a little. Did get quite a bit more fluid out, but it still looked good down to the last drop. So if the tips of the parking gears got worn off, I'm not sure where the metal went...
Even though the...
Finally had a chance to pick the tractor back up today. Parked with the trailer facing downhill a little and then put blocks under the front wheels:
Got it of the trailer fine and parked it on flat ground:
Here's a more detailed printout of the work they did:
Interesting that there...
I called and spoke to the service manager. He said that it drives fine now and goes in and out of park and no grinding noises. Just won't hold on an incline. He made no guarantees that it would not get stuck again (which of course he can't). So I'll pick back up when I get a chance. I guess...
I got the estimate back from the shop:
I'm not going to pay an additional $9k for park to hold on an incline! I'll pick up a couple of wheel chocks to throw under the rears if I ever decided to park on an incline again.
I'll for sure change the transmission fluid 1st thing after picking it up.
Tractor is a 2012 5085M with PowrReverser Transmission. 16 forward and reverse gears (4 ranges with 4 gears in each). It's NOT the PowrQuad PLUS or Powr8 transmission and it doesn't have the creeper option.
The range selector (A-D and Park) is a long shaft with a cradle at the bottom with a...
Yeah, my Ford 1700 has the gold old brake pedal with a finger latch. Have to occasionally adjust to make sure the left and right side are about even when braking. Very easy to maintain.
My John Deere 1025R has this slide lever you engage with your good on the brake.
I don't mind either of...
@grsthegreat Yeah, I hope not to relive that experience again. I actually moved the tractor to intercept the rolling trailer and the hill only got steeper (much steeper) from where I was. The trailer and everything on it would have ended up as a bent pile of metal down in the woods, had I...
Got her loaded onto the trailer and heading to the dealer 1st thing in the morning.
I sure hope just removing to top cover from the transmission will allow them to fix the issue.
Yeah, back when I was still making payments on it, it was covered by Deere Guard or whatever its called, so that covered replacing the cab frame. They never went into the transmission when that repair was made. Haven't have any issues really over the last 12 years/1,200 hours. Still don't...
That ratcheting sounds is extremely loud. I think if I just drive it like that, some metal piece is going to wear down inside the transmission and cause a lot more extensive damage. It's like when you miss a gear in a manual and just keep trying to force it in gear anyway. Can't be good for it.
Called the dealer to get an idea of cost. He said about 10-12 hours to remove the cab and pop off the transmission cover. Their shop rate is $130/hour. So about $1,500 before they can start determining what's wrong with it. Ouch...
Yeah, tranny can stay, but removing the cab is going to be a royal pain. It was off once before at the dealer when they replaced the cab frame due to this mishap:
I was loading the trailer and it started rolling into the tractor.
Here's the cover I need to get to:
Remove cab:
Might...
So I found that range selector/park interacts with this single shaft that goes into the transmission:
There are no external adjustments.
I did find the service manual and the first step is to remove the cab and then remove the transmission...
Here are the components:
Here's the...
