What is the dumbest thing you have done with your equipment ?

Dumbest thing ever done with compact tractor: attempting to pull t-posts from ground with rear implement mounts. Pulled tractor front end off ground, snapped off a tail light. Did NOT get the post out of the ground. Moral: pull posts by hand or dig around them before trying to pull

What are the most reliable tractors to own?

Asking which tractor is best is exactly like asking which pickup truck is best (Ford, Chevy/GMC, Dodge, even Nissan or Toyota?) The answer is that it depends on a LOT of factors, like how big a tractor, your location, the work you want to accomplish, and probably the most subjective of all...

    DPFs, EGRs, DEF, etc...

a way to avoid all this: used equipment. Even if you have to buy a book to maintain it, the power and frankly usefulness of older equipment keeps you grounded. Overall cost is also a fraction of new equipment.

Grading--what am I doing to cause this?

My opinion: slow down, put weight on your blade (several cement blocks, wired on), angle >30 degrees. As mentioned in several posts, the rocks are making the ripples occur. The other thing you mentioned was digging in. That might be that your tractor is "falling" into a slight dip that you...

    Farm UTV/RTV Purchase

I'm kind of where you are (AGreenFarmer), still doing some research. I had thought the belt driven machines were mainly for joy riding and speed, but I read here that other have found them as good workers. The Kubota's I think are generally more $'s, and are built on a tractor frame. Since I've...

Buying Advice Is it possible to go too big?

There are already some super points of advice listed in this thread, but I'll add in my own experience with a 54 Acre (not flat) farm that we purchased, also never having owned a serious tractor before. We purchased a TLB (tractor/loader/backhoe) compact 27 hp Kubota in the "B" series. I have...

    Another confused first timer

Hello; first off, without going crazy, bigger and heavier is always better than smaller and lighter - when it comes to a tractor. Buying a used unit, even if you have to have it shipped, is always an option if you can find one. Just watch the hours. I've had super good luck with Kubotas (2 of...

    Carbon Dioxide

These are all great points. Every time I see a posting about climate change or global warming, I think "what are the choices?", not "you ought to change this or that." I'm concerned about the total environmental footprint of the batteries we use on small items (weed wackers, etc) and...
