What I mean about the strainer is that I reassembled it in the wrong order. Got number 2 and 7 the wrong way round in this pic. I mention it because I may have fixed the problem by cleaning out the filter but created another problem by reassembling it incorrectly.

I recently acquired a Case IH 454. Mostly been good but has given intermittent hydraulic issues e.g. bucket won't lift. The guy before me changed (or got someone to change) the hydraulic fluid and (I assume) put the right stuff in there.
