Test drove used John Deere Gator 6x4, have questions

It does. The Kubota really need to be 40-50 hp, not 25. They work at 25hp, but are dogs. I'm pretty sure they stay at 25hp because above that a buynch of emissions requirements kick in. Also, my understanding is that when the rated speed is over 25mpg, it has to have doors, which ends up...

PTO Shaft to Gearbox Bolts Keep Breaking!

Would it be possible to get a picture of the bolt and surrounding mechanism so we are all sure to be talking about the same thing? I have seen bolts holding flange faces together, flange faces with only one bolt holding them together, sleeve couplers with shear bolts through the shaft and...

That's a very interesting hydrid with all wood except for the trusses. I didn't pick wood because I didn't want to lose the interior headroom to wood trusses, but this solves that problem.

So it's just the post anchors that are embedded in the slab, and the wood blocks are just to hold everything in position? Is the slab thickened around the perimeter, and if so how much compared to the center? Your climate is not too far off from ours with solid freezes in the winter. What...

Advice on Hydrostatic Transmission vs Gears

Sounds like the gearing in the NH may not go low enough. I've never run one, so no personal experience with them.

Advice on Hydrostatic Transmission vs Gears

OK, but so what? This is why HSTs have oil coolers. I guess I don't see what teh big deal is, other than an inconsequential downside. HSTs consume more energy - that's well know. In their typical applications, that's a welcome tradeoff for the operational convenience and performance.

Advice on Hydrostatic Transmission vs Gears

I guess I'm not seeing what you describe in all my years running various HSTs. In my experience, if the tires don't spin, the engine stalls. There is no relief valve function like in lifting hydraulics. Now I haven't looked closely at my HST design to see what actual relief valves exist to...

    Anyone live near a windfarm?

There was a turbine, actually two, visible from my last house and about 2 miles as the crow flies. I actually found them quite soothing to watch. They were located in an industrial park that I went to periodically, and in that area you could hear them going woosh, woosh, woosh. Not awful...

    IVT

Yes, I saw the original post, but I think anyone coming along now won't be able to make heads or tales of it. In my opinion, unless there was a clear oil type incompatibility, the mixed oils should not have reacted as shown. So whether there is no abnormality in the WM oil, it was defective...

Kubota RTV 500 in cargo trailer.

I have a cargo/car carrier trailer and my RTV won't fit because of height. Width isn't a problem, but the roof and roll cage is too tall. So check that too.

What did you buy this week?

I ordered a Euro/Global to SSQA adapter from Bell Precision. The less expensive adapters from Titan and others have terrible reviews, and see to frequently require modifications to the adapter or implements that you are trying ti use them with. I'm happy to pay 20% more for a (hopefully)...

hydraulic couple clamping tool (inspired by recent Messick's video on YT)

Pressure in teh implement is just as much of a problem as pressure in the tractor or carrier machine. Temperature changes is one source of pressure changes. Also, many implements will lean, hang, or settle in such a way that puts pressure on a line. A tilt bucket will pressurize one line if...

I agree. The title, thread, and all its content have been gutted to the point of no value. I don't know if the OP edited it, or the site team, but it's all kind of useless now.

I see, so the posts are just dug straight into the ground with no footing, and surrounded by unmixed concrete. I assume the posts are at least pressure treated? I had envisioned pouring concrete footings with brackets on top to set the posts in so there is no ground contact with the wood. But...

    Fergie's in ICU

Any more info from the dealer who's tearing the engine down? They actually might not spend any time tearing it down, and just replace the whole thing to save labor costs. Then ship the blow engine back to the factory for inspection and anaysis.
