    Ford 4000 Repair Questions

Well unfortunately it doesn’t have a live pto. Just a 4 speed manual. Although it does have the added value of a Sherman combination transmission and power steering. But, not really looking at value; this was my grandfathers tractor. Just plan on doing it some justice and overhauling it. I know...

    Ford 4000 Repair Questions

I’ve been tearing apart the 4000 I was given. I was just going to repair it and drive it from there but decided to paint it so I’m disassembling it. Couple thing have happened or discovered in this process. First off I was taking the temp sender out and it broke off in the block. Any suggestions...

Ford 4000 Removing Front Hydraulic Spline

Painful as it is I’m having to pull my front hydraulic spline off the crank pulley and I can’t seem to remove it. I was wondering if there’s something I’m missing when it comes to pulling these spline shafts out. I’ve heated it, beaten in it, and sprayed it with penetrating oil but no luck. Thanks.

    Ford 4000 Alternator Wiring

Currently rewiring the Ford 4000 due to the unfortunate rat brigade out at the ranch I got the tractor from. So I took the alternator off since I figured it wasn’t internally regulated due to the regulator block under the dash. Ended up being a 1965 Chevy alternator, so replaced it with an...

    Ford 4000 Wiring

I bought a wiring harness from YT few days ago and decided to start putting it on the Ford 4000. The tractor is 12 volt and had a voltage regulator up under the dash. There was also a resistor by the coil because a 6 volt coil was still being used. Couple questions here.... Do I have to have a...

Ford 4000 With Sherman Combo Transmission

So I got some new parts for the tractor today so I decided to pull the tarp and install a few of them. I was playing with the steering wheel when I saw the Sherman plate on it. Was wondering if this is the shifter for the step up or step down. Or maybe it’s a steering wheel off a 8N or 9N? Thanks

    Positive or Negative Ground

Here’s a picture of the alternator fellas. Not the greatest picture. Raining and bit cold today. Name on the bottom is Delco Remy

    Positive or Negative Ground

This Ford 4000 was converted to 12v at some point in time. The main issue is I don’t know how to tell whether it’s a positive or negative ground. Here’s a couple of photos I got this morning before the rain set in. Any tips or ideas are appreciated. Thanks

    Ignition Coils and Electronic Firing

I’ve been looking at coils here lately and I’m wondering if the high performance coils with 45,000 volts is worth the investment. Also would like some of y’alls opinions on swapping over to an electronic fired system. Thanks for the insight.

    Gresen 2712 M

Cool enough the fluid tank is within the 3” loader structure itself. I have no idea how much capacity it takes; I’m sure it’s quite a bit. (Lowest horizontal pipe in the picture)

    Gresen 2712 M

1964 Ford 4000, 4 cylinder. I pulled the pump but can’t find much about it. Found information about the control valve I posted but nothing helpful on the pump.

Something like this is what you’re talking about right? And if you don’t mind can you explain the meaning of “spool” or is there a thread for new folks to hydraulics. Thanks

Here’s a few better photos I took this morning. Seems to be only one outlet.
