    Hello from new member Schips.

Regeneration on my 40 hp boomer is barely noticeable; happens every 50 hours or so. For only an acre you might do better with a strong lawn and garden tractor. Save your bucks until you purchase the more acreage you're dreaming about instead of blowing it on more tractor than you currently...

What kind of tree is this?

Someone suggested that Bois d' arc trees make good bows. Bois is wood in french, arc is bow; so the French knew what tree to use for bow making. Strong, everlasting, rot proof fence posts too. This thread is both funny and a little scary. I think the O.P. might have a project way above his...

Woods, Bush Hog, or Kioti finish mower?

I cannot speak for the other models but I own an older Bush Hog RDTH 60, a 5 foot, rear discharge finish mower. I've had it 5 or 6 years; it gives a nice cut on my lawn, and has been trouble free. I like that it is heavier than off brands. I sometimes take it into some fields for light brush...

    20-25 gallon sprayer recommendations

Check out sprayers at Northern Tool. I had a cheapo from Tractor Supply with a 1 gpm pump . The cheap 1 gpm pumps don't last very long. I spent about $200 a few years ago at Northern tool for a better sprayer with a better pump and it works like it should without problems. There are many...

    Ford 3930 Losing power

Start with whichever looks esiest, probably the cable, and go from there. 3930s had a lot of balls, a 6 foot bush mower shouldn't be a problem.

    Deer vs. Apple trees

Christmas tree growers like me have had success with a deer repellent called Trico. While pricey, one application keeps deer away for the winter. I would read the label to see if it has been approved for apples; its' main ingredients are sheep fat and lanolin so it is not particularly toxic.

    Health Care Prior to Medicare?

Sorry to nit pick... Please stop saying SSI when you mean Social Security payments. SSI is a welfare program; think "living in the projects"... if you have worked a lot of your life you're not going to be SSI material. On the other hand SSI recipients automatically get medicaid which costs them...

How do farmers make any money?

Sold the 20 beef cows and related equipment 25 years ago; tired of maybe breaking even in a good year. I was out for a year when a friend asked if I wanted to partner in an established Christmas Tree farm. After 2 years I sold my half to my partner (good partners are hard to find) then grew...

    Snow plowing season started.

Three feet on unfrozen ground followed by an inch of rain and 45 degrees. Calls for more lake effects on Thursday. You never know what lake effects might do; 3 inches or 3 feet while a mile away the opposite can happen. Meanwhile with all the melting the Christmas tree farm is on the way to...

    Spectrum Fiber Optic Internet?

As a result of Time Warner merging with Comcast, Spectrum became the new name. As a condition of the merger, the company had to roll out internet (and Cable) to a lot of rural customers like me. The internet service is very fast, very reliable in this one persons' experience. When the...

Tractor Insurance: am I being ripped off

There are people who make a living as independent insurance adjusters who work for you, not the insurance company. Google around. Most independent adjusters don't know ag equipment, so when one tells you that, ask who he knows of that does.
