MX5400....I hate the seat safety switch

Driving tractor with the front end loader bucket elevated .

I see people driving with the bucket up all the time and all I can say is they don't understand. The examples above for pushing down grass are intentional and provide a function but you see people just tooling along with the bucket 5'-6' in the air for no reason. If you can't see over it or...

MF 1835M loader support collapsed on tractor

I have a 1635 with a DL 120 loader. On mine, those supports are round, Not sure why they changed. I hope you have some type of warranty, there is no reason you should ever be able to over stress these supports.

Publishing Loader Capacity Numbers That Far Exceed The Capacity Of The Axles

This will continue to happen when they insist on putting compact tractor parts on sub-compact tractors. Most of these things are classified as class 1 but should really be a 0. They simply aren't built to handle the loads stated by the data. How can your front axle be at max weight capacity with...

Your Yearly Cost of Tractor Ownership

The tractor is paid for, so fuel and normal maintenance is the only cost. Oil, filters, hyd fluid, grease and general upkeep. I do all the maintenance myself, so cost is less. Long answer short, it varies, but a few hundred dollars usually covers it. Much less than the $10 per hour cited in the OP

    Back dragging: how aggressive?

I change the angle depending on how aggressive the situation calls for. Everything from just past horizontal to near vertical and at times even lifting the wheels off the ground, never an issue. If I had to do it extensively or daily, a skid steer would be the preferred machine.

Comparison The Bitterness of Poor Quality Remains Long After the Sweetness of Low Price is Forgotten

I have a small Massey (1635) When we bought it used, we compared it to everything else we could find. The usual suspects were far too overpriced to even consider. Others in the price range had less features, fit and finish and/or capacities. One thing that helped steer my decision may sound odd...

Can anyone link me to a definition of a "firm whack"?

The main reason a "firm whack" is difficult to quantify, is that is a combination of art and science. While technically it should not make sense to hit something with a hammer, it works often enough to consider it a viable alternative to a proper R&R of the stubborn part/s to be struck. This...

Can anyone link me to a definition of a "firm whack"?

To understand a "firm whack" you must first complete a full apprenticeship program, followed by several years of independent hands on work. You must be able to strike the faulty part, encouraging it to miraculously repair itself without damaging it. Only then will you fully understand the art of...

Are you "brand" person when it comes to your tractor?

I got my tractor because of the specs it has. If I had to get another I would look to them first but if the specs aren't there I'll move on to another brand that has what I want.

    Would You Loan It Out?

I've been working with tools/machines all my life and I never lend anything out to anyone ever for any reason, period. This is why I still have tools. The OP sounds like a nice guy but needs to learn to say NO in a nice way. JMHO

I need some input on roll around tool boxes

A few years ago I bought a 52" craftsman bottom box with ball bearing drawers. (mid-range) It's okay for storage but it's horrible to move. You can easily overload the casters and bottom mounting plate before you overload the drawers. The casters would rather try to tip over rather than rotate...

    Teflon tape on hydraulic fittings

Teflon tape is for sealing tapered threads. Hydraulic fitting's don't seal via the threads. If you're using teflon tape on hydraulic fittings, you're either trying to patch something in the field to hold on till you can get it to the shop and properly fixed OR you don't know what you're doing.
