Thanks. We ended up doing basically the same. Took bolts whole way out to get started. Hammered a regular chisel into each side as far as they would go without going into the hole where the shaft goes. Lined it up and wiggled and it started sliding. Then put bolts back in loose and hammered it...

Did you ever get the PTO shaft onto the grinder? If so, what did you end up doing? I'm having the same problem.
