    Need tips for installing FEL

I just bought a used Ford 770 loader with arms and hydraulics for my 1980 Ford 1700 and am looking for any advice for installing it. I've never done anything like this. The loader I bought came off a Ford 1300, which I gather has a slightly smaller clutch housing, meaning that I will have to...

Ford 1700 Diff lock lever is stuck

Yeah, some day I might be stuck and wish I had the diff lock, but probably not worth what it would take to fix it. Thanks.

Do you need to use M2C-134A exactly or will anything else work - Ford 1700

It's been two years since you posted this message, but I'm going through the same thing with my own Ford 1700 that I just inherited -- wanting to do an end-to-end maintenance job. I ended up using Napa 80w90 for the hubs and front axle and Napa 10w30 in the engine and air filter, because I live...

    Loader w/out power steering

Thanks for sharing that. I'm sorry you had that experience, but I appreciate being able to benefit from it! (btw, my other tractor is a Massey, so I guess we own a similar combination.)

    Loader w/out power steering

Thanks. That's definitely not what I want to hear, but I'd rather hear it now than spend a lot of money only to be left with a tractor (or, worse, a pile of parts) that I can't use!

    Ford 1700 cooling issues

Thanks for that good information. Sounds like my belt might be stretched, since my alternator is already at the end of its arm. That'll be a good bit of preventive maintenance anyway, if I can find the right belt.

    Loader w/out power steering

I've been trying to find a loader to put on my Ford 1700, but I was just told by a Ford tractor repair shop that it's a bad idea to put a loader on a tractor without power steering. The Ford 1700 came with power steering as an option, but I guess my grandpa didn't see the need. Seems to me that...

    Ford 1700 cooling issues

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've already flushed the block and the radiator in both directions, cleaned the screen, and refilled it with coolant. The dishwasher soap sounds like a good thing to try if it keeps overheating. I noticed that the fan belt was kind of loose and tightened that up...

    Ford 1700 cooling issues

Thanks, Roadworthy and TractorTech, for your help. I was able to get the coolant to flow out of the drain plug by reaming it out with a 6d nail. I flushed it from the radiator top through the block plug, but I'll do it those other ways you suggested before I replace the thermo and refill with...

Ford 1700 Diff lock lever is stuck

I've just inherited a 1980 Ford 1700 4WD and I have a couple of issues that I'm hoping someone can help me with. This one is about the diff lock. I just noticed that the lever for engaging the diff lock is stuck down. I think I've ascertained that the diff lock itself is not engaged, because...

    Ford 1700 cooling issues

I've just inherited a 1980 Ford 1700 4WD and I have a couple of issues that I'm hoping someone can help me with. The first is the cooling system. It seemed to be fine when I was plowing snow, but yesterday (warmer weather), I had it running and the temp gauge went all the way up. I wanted to...

Waiting for my new Massey Ferguson 1705

Hello, Now within shouting distance of 60, I've bought my first tractor: a Massey Ferguson to be delivered tomorrow, to help me maintain my camp in snowy, NW PA on 68 acres with fields, 6-7 acres of meadow, and a hellacious long, steep, rutted driveway. One of the first things I need to do is...

Snow  Snow removal: bucket, blower, plow?

My new MF 1705 is being delivered tomorrow with a bucket loader. I definitely wanted the loader, but I was hoping to be able to plow the long, steep road to my camp with it. Now I'm worried that it will take forever to fill the bucket, turn to the side, dump, back up, turn, and repeat. But if...
