    Another MX6 Brush Hog Failure

Just seeing this for some reason. The guy that did the repair work was the one who suggested would have been cheaper to just replace the gear box. He does quite a bit of fabrication on equipment. We never discussed which gear box as I already had the gear set. Very possible any modification...

Lane Shark vs Skid Steer Brush Mower

I spoke with the local Bobcat dealer and the representative on the phone discouraged trying to run a cutter on an open cab skid steer. Indicated it shouldn't work because of a safety switch on a front door not being detected and should prevent the hydraulics from working. Said the door was...

Lane Shark vs Skid Steer Brush Mower

Your response to #2 has got me thinking. The dust generated right in front of you with the skid steer may be quite a bit. With this not being intended to be a “for hire” situation it may very well be a better option to just rent a cabbed skid steer every few years or give the Lane Shark a try.

Lane Shark vs Skid Steer Brush Mower

That’s a pretty good motto! Couple more questions: 1) is your machine standard or high flow? 2) if primarily mowing brush, bushes, limbs, etc….not grass….. is the dust created as bad as or worse than a rotary cutter behind a tractor?

Lane Shark vs Skid Steer Brush Mower

Is your skid steer open or enclosed cab with heat/air? This pic looks like no front door.

Lane Shark vs Skid Steer Brush Mower

Good feedback and makes sense. I fully would not expect the Lane Shark to be comparable to the skid steer for land clearing and bigger stuff. That’s not really what I am planning to be doing, but know that until everything is cut back could get into some bigger stuff unexpectedly. I have read...

Lane Shark vs Skid Steer Brush Mower

The task is trail/road overhang maintenance and edge of yard/field maintenance. Not really interested in major land/tree clearing. Equipment available is open station JD 5303 4WD with 522 FEL, one rear remote, currently no third function or Bobcat S250 rubber tire skid steer, open cab...

    Another MX6 Brush Hog Failure

I replaced the shaft, but by the time got parts and got it all back together was told could have purchased a new aftermarket gear box for less. So far has had no issues after several years of use.

    1973 Ford 4000 Charging Issue

Good call. Was able to locate a tractor dealer that used to be a Ford dealer. They checked everything and found the voltage regulator burned up and some wires connected wrong behind the dash including a voltage stabilizer. Everything seems to be working as it should for now. Appreciate the feedback.

    1973 Ford 4000 Charging Issue

Are there specifications on output or other measurable items for these? Hear a lot about converting to an alternator system, but hear that it causes the loss of some of gauge functions. Add to it that this set up has worked reliably for 50 years if can just replace it stands to reason would be...

    1973 Ford 4000 Charging Issue

Having issues with the charging system on 1973 Ford 4000. Charging light would come on and could check battery voltage and confirm was not charging. Carried tractor to a starter/alternator shop to repair. They wound up replacing the generator and regulator. Worked for maybe a day and charging...

    5045D Toplink length

Yes. I run tail wheel on the ground carrying the weight of the mower and adjust the height with three point hitch. Occasionally will have need to carry cutter completely off the ground while still mowing, but not very often.

    5045D Toplink length

I changed my tail wheel height on my MX6 so that when I used the hitch control to set front of mower inch or so off the ground the rear would be 1” to 1-1/2” higher. Made substantial difference in how easy it cut in thick tall grass. Had plenty of HP regardless, but very noticeable difference on...

Loader Parking stands for JD 522 loader

I have a 5303 with the 522 loader. I have my parking stands. If you still need some dimensions let me know.

    JD 5303 Tachometer Intermittent

I am tempted to try replacing the speed sensor too, but hate to guess at it. Recently had some loader work to do and the tachometer started back working. Wondering if the speed sensor can be intermittent or is it either good or bad?? I also took a pic of the hours as I am not certain they were...
