    As rScotty mentioned, Permatex Gasket Maker works perfectly as far I I can tell. I scratched the sidewall of the big tire on some rebar and it filled it perfectly a couple years ago. Looke like part of the tire.

    Most likely is originally cracked (rusted part) from driving into a pile, just picking up is unlikely to do that. Then it kept tearing until it gave way.

    From what I've learned, is don't use 4wd unless you need it, especially on solid pavement. At the least, it tears up your front tires, and it puts wear on your front-wheel drive transmission. And you want to do that why?
