    Restarting My '70 Nova Project

Been working collecting parts to install power steering on the Nova. I decided to go with a Type II style pump instead of the Saginaw pump, and so far it's been a challenge getting it mounted, and devising a way to adjust the belt tension. I bought a March mounting kit and have had to modify the...

You Know You Are Old When

Here's an old nail apron my grandfather, who was a carpenter had, that I inherited.

You Know You Are Old When

Yep, those old fabrics shrink after so many washes. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

You Know You Are Old When

An old crusty truck driver that worked for me back on the 70s said that a truck only has enough power if it can pull 100,000 lbs up a 10% grade at 100 mph.

I heard it as: Close only counts in horseshoes and atom bombs.

    Mower idler pulley

I didn't have any rivets (then), but had a bin full of bolts, so I used them. I considered staggering the rivet holes and plug welding the halves together, but went with bolts.

    Colloquialisms

What we here in Indiana refer to as "doing donuts", i.e. doing a burnout going in a circle, in Minnesota, I'm told, is called "whipping shitties."

    Mower idler pulley

I had a pulley like that a few years ago on a friends deck that wasn't available. so I drilled out the rivets, the halves separated, popped the bearing out and installed a new one. Bolted it back together and it lasted until he junked the mower several years later. I think it used a standard...

    Rail roads and their tracks.

Especially when you walk up the the real thing. I've stopped and looked at it a couple of times when I went across HWY 2 years ago. Those things were marvels of engineering being articulated and requiring flexible couplings for steam and valve gear linkage.

    Restarting My '70 Nova Project

Today I finally got everything working as it should and got the instrument panel reinstalled. Not sure exactly was wrong, but I think there were several different issues that were intermittent or inconsistent. But, I got everything to work with it out on the floor, worked when set in place...

    Built a garden bench.

Yes, she wants me to build another one and take it to the UP for her. Not sure if that's going to happen. I do want to build a small work table for the garden, though.

    Built a garden bench.

Yes, she loves the outdoors, spends a few months in the UP on her property. She plants a garden in my back yard, then leaves and goes north. I do a lot of things for her, I'm her resident handyman.

You Know You Are Old When

One of my friends said "I want to die at 102, shot in the back by an irate husband."

    Restarting My '70 Nova Project

I have a scratch built diesel, 10KW generator that I started building back in 2010. It had a serious malfunction on the first test run and bent the shaft on the generator. It sat in the back of my shop until 2020 when I finally pulled it out, repaired it and got it all finished up. Sometimes you...
