I remember when operators placed all your calls. Pick up the phone, wait for the operator, give her the number you wanted to cal, and she'd connect you. One of my aunts was an operator back in the 50s.

When I bought my Nova, I knew it had some rust holes in the driver's side floor, but figured I could fix that. Three years later, I decided to get it fixed, so I pulled the seats and carpet and found holes in the passenger side too, from the leaking heater. Some more checking, and I found sloppy...

Sure, but just how often are those capabilities actually used? Most of the people that buy those option loaded, over priced trucks rarely use it for anything other than to impress the neighbors and haul the kids to soccer or gymnastics practice. I love to laugh at those guys loading 8, 10 or 12...

Same thing happened to my local JD dealer a few years ago. They'd been a JD dealer since the '40s, but I guess loyalty means nothing to the big corporate monopoly JD has become in the last couple of decades.

Not ancient history on a human scale, but how many of us were blown away with the speed you could get logging onto a dial-up BBS at 1200bps? My first computer was a Radio Shack Model 1, with a 300 baud modem. An now people whine like babies if they can get gigabit fiber connections.
