Does a 3ph land plane need to have adjustable blades?

My Woods land plane has adjustable skids. They're useful for enabling the outside edge to dig more to help set a crown, and to control the overall amount of cut. My tractor has a hydraulic top link, but with well-adjusted skids, it's so much easier to drop it to the ground, and have it work...

    Small towable graders?

Same here: half mile gravel driveway, I use a Woods GSS72P land plane for routine maintenance. As someone else highlighted, use the heaviest tractor (or truck) possible. My L5740 pulls it fine, but my LX2710 struggles to pull a 72" blade uphill with a full load of gravel, even with a full FEL...

    Bush Hog

Hopefully this photo and an example should help clear it up, for anyone still confused. I haven't done any bush hogging yet this spring, but just used the grading blade to pull the stones back onto the driveway after a long winter. (And that's a Land Pride York rake in the background ;))

The right tractor for towing/forestry work

I regularly use my L5740 - with chained and loaded tires - to pull a 10K dump trailer up and down logging roads. The chains make a huge difference: I wouldn't think of going in the woods without a full set of logging chains. Heck, in a pinch, it can pull 80k lbs uphill, through a foot of fresh...

    Mini Excavator?

I've cleared miles of mountain roads in NH using a mini ex and farm tractor. The mini cuts the initial grade (30-45 degree slopes on my hills), removes stumps and boulders, and does a first rough pass at leveling with the 4-way blade. The I come back with the tractor with a FEL, box blade and...

Need advice on 30 -40hp tractor purchase

I live in NH, and have a 1/2 mile gravel driveway, half of which goes through a large field, with lots of drifting. I use an L5740, with an angle plow mounted on the FEL, and a PTO snowblower on the rear. Most years I can get by with just the FEL-mounted plow all winter long, facing forward...

Wooden bridge for 2000# tractor to cross creek

I've built a few bridges on my property, mostly from felled trees. But my latest is a 24' span drawbridge built from Werner aluminum staging planks. They're rated for 750 lbs load each, yet only weigh about 100 lbs per span, so easy enough to raise by hand. I added a temporary support...

Should I cab or not. Getting ready to buy

I don't have anything new to highlight, but I'll add my experience. I'm in NH and have both a cab (L5740) and open (B2710) compact tractors. And I grew up farming in Maryland with a fleet of open Farmalls, and a JD 4040 (cab but no A/C), so I've lived through mid-Atlantic humidity. 97 times...
