Ford 5000 power steering. To repair, or update?

I’m lucky to not have much play, fortunately. Pin holding the rod end of the cylinder was in good shape- definitely had some slight wear, but hardly any material loss on the pin itself. Tip to anybody doing this on any 4400/5000 with the 735 loader- jack up the loader subframe, take off the...

Ford 5000 power steering. To repair, or update?

Also, if anybody has any tips on getting out the big tapered pin holding the cylinder, I’d love any advice I can get. The current plan is to take an air hammer to the surrounding casting and hammer in some wedges underneath the pin with a BFH.

Ford 5000 power steering. To repair, or update?

My tractor is a pre-force, may of 1968. She has the early style power assist steering, which uses a cylinder with attached valve tucked inside the front bolster under the radiator to add hydraulic force to steering motion. The cylinder, or maybe the lines feeding it, are leaking badly. It needs...

Anyone seen this attachment? What is it?

Must be I need to get my hearing and/or memory checked 😆

Anyone seen this attachment? What is it?

Anybody else hearing that Trisha Yearwood song? "You was just another hayseed plowboy, who didn't have a rotor-hoe"

    Workmaster 55 Flasher problem.

If you get a hold of your dealer, sometimes if you "pretty please" enough they'll slip ya a wiring diagram. Based on what you're saying, I'd almost wonder that should your tractor have one or more, there's a bad diode somewheres. You can test them with a multimeter. Check for...

People with rotary 3 point spreaders... does your tractor ever get corrosion issues?

That's a good looking setup! I too wash and wax my tractor. She's a tool, but I believe tools should be kept presentable and clean. Not to mention I also have sentimental attachment to my ol gal. I'd probably think that spraying the hopper with a good non stick spray of some variety, or rubbing...

Ford 3600 Tractor Repair in East Central Minnesota?

Are you running ethanol free fuel? Ethanol will ruin carburetors. If you need to use ethanol fuel, close your shut off valve before storage, run the tractor until it stalls out. Open the bowl drain before starting if she's sat more than say 3 weeks- condensation. Do you have a sediment bowl...

People with rotary 3 point spreaders... does your tractor ever get corrosion issues?

I'm pretty well familiar with the way the spreaders themselves rot out- my concern is whether all that fertilizer, lime, salt, whatever winds up coating the back of the tractor. I have a nice original tractor that I like to keep in good cosmetic condition. I could get a lot of use out of a...

    Welding my tractor hood

Preface: I am a horrible welder. Full stop, bird poo esque boogers is how I do repairs. Based on what I see, I'd be tempted to cut all the way back behind the louvers, and do all that as a replacement. That cut is so close to the louvers it's gonna be a helluva time trying to weld, sand, fill...

    Do you grease/maintain borrowed equipment?

I do, so long as I know I'm not going to inadvertantly screw something up. (I'd probably inquire about grease beforehand, in this instance.) Way I see it- a person's property is an extension of themself. If you disrespect their stuff, you disrespect them. Leave it better than you found it, is a...

Ford 5000 power steering leak. Could the choice of fluid be to blame?

Yeah, rebuild is what it needs. Just really not looking forward to it. lol. Figure some molten wax (been told it beats penetrating oil), heat the pin good with a torch and I can probably get it out. Realistically if/when I do it I'll probably do it towards mid fall of this year after the cereal...

Ford 5000 power steering leak. Could the choice of fluid be to blame?

My 1968 5000, with early-style power steering developed a moderate leak from the cylinder back in early winter. When I got the tractor two years ago, the PS fluid was red in color, which led me to believe it was running on some flavor of ATF or power steering fluid. I do not know what variety it...

A few questions about pickup trucks

I find that a pickup truck is one of those things where once you have it, you find things to do with it you haven’t considered. I drive a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, with the heavy towing package rated for 9,000 lbs. I’ve hauled implements home from sales, sand to coat my driveway in winter...

A backwards disk chisel, (chisel disk?) to make food plots

Agreed on all points. Our soil is a clay loam, not super heavy, but mostly rock. Stuff I’ll be tilling won’t have much sod, just briars and trash mostly. I really can’t tell how well she’d pull it either.
