DEF for new truck

/ DEF for new truck #122
Years ago I witnessed a fist fight over that. A new truck driver left his rig at the pump instead of pulling forward or parking. When he returned a very irritated middle=age man was standing by his truck door. Time is money to truckers.
Whelp alright ok so who won the "fist fight"? Did that result in the driver moving his truck from that pump more quickly, or did somebody else have to move it for him because he got all dead and stuff?

DEF must be available at the area semi truck stops. Have to check on that. Otherwise the two jugs were $8.50 each. At the local O'Reilly's store. I doubt there will ever be a DEF pump at the local Chevron station. Not enough traffic.

Yes - the truck is clean and shinny and the grass is green. But it was darn cold when I took these pics. Tires show that the one wet spot on my driveway is still "active".

Nice, looks like you have the 8 ft. bed makes for a long truck.

Yeah thats the full length school-bus alright. Funny how they still use the term "sport" for basic trim levels. Very nice rig.

My flatbed struggles to take fuel as fast as they put out otherwise I’d fill up there all the time. It takes forever to fill up my 50+ gallon tank with the regular pumps.
That's another reason I tend to use the regular car pumps. Both the factory 52 and 22 gallon tanks have to be filled somewhat slowly or they keep clicking off.

The 46 gallon auxiliary is no problem with its filler neck pointing straight up, but the OE tanks probably take longer at the truck pumps. At least it feels like it - maybe because the driver behind me is thinking "Man, that guy spends more time filling his 110 gallons than I do my 500."

The dealer had all levels of the diesel 3500 series. I choose the 8 foot bed and a more basic level. It won't take me so long to figure out all the in's/outs of the digital dashboard controls. I had eight years of experience with the "taco wagon". Man - I really loved that pickup.

It developed multiple electrical/digital display problems that the local Chrysler dealer assured me - he could not provide a permanent cure.

Local Chevron station has diesel. The new truck takes on fuel at full pump rate.

On the seldom occasion that I do haul with the truck. I like everything to be within the walls of the bed. This truck with a 6' 4" bed is big - the 8' bed is only slightly larger.

My parking area - at the house - is unlimited in size.

Hopefully he was more considerate and remembered the beating and subsequently moved his truck the next time. Some people never learn though.
...or he will arrive better prepared the next time. ;)

Sooo
How’d you get bit by the Cummins bug? Inquiring minds need to know.

I once owned a 2002 Chevrolet Duramax, crew cab, long bed dually. It was great for towing, but was way too difficult driving/parking in the city.

Besides wanting a power wagon - I've always wanted a diesel pickup/truck. I was - long time - hoping for a diesel power wagon. That does not seem to be in the future.

So....now both boxes are checked. AND I hate driving in the big city also. Too many drivers - all in too big a hurry. Yes - I'm the guy who parks with parking space divider line running right down the middle, under his truck. Go bang your car door up against somebody else's vehicle.

I looked at the vehicles/diesels provided by the other major auto companies and concluded that Ram/Cummins best fit my needs. Besides - I like the looks of the Ram best.

Fortunately - there are many choices and we can each make our own decisions.

Oosik,

It’s too late now but are you aware the Power Wagon will have the HO Cummins in it in 27? You lose the front winch due to the added weight of the diesel but will have all the other Power Wagon doodads.

I’ll be picking up my 3500 Laramie Night Edition long bed on Monday. It’ll be a significant step up in features and power from my 2011 1500 Big Horn!!

Actually - when you get right down to the pennies - this long bed diesel 3500 Ram will do everything that I ever did or wanted to do with the 2018 Power Wagon. I never - even once - had to use the winch. Too much experience with winching when I lived in AK. Learned , very well, when to go and when to stay and enjoy this side of the mud hole. And - for sure - there are certainly sufficient dashboard doo/dads to keep me busy in this new truck.

I did - pull all the winch line out every year - clean it - relube it with a silicone based oil - spool it back onto the winch.

Probably because they don't fuel at the pumps the big rigs use. I've yet to see a diesel/DEF pump in the section where autos and pickups fuel. I've been a diesel pickup owner for many many years and not once have I fueled with the big rigs.
You can fill up at the big rigs for def. Go to a truck stop that has it and head inside. Prepay for it and then go ahead and fill it up.

Where I am we have car locks with def. I just went and got a car lock card and I fill up with fuel and def all the time.

As long as Brownie approves, I’m good.
You’ll love the Cummins.
The only downside is you’ll have to slap the grin off your face frequently

I bought my 2024 f350 new in sept. of 2024. It now has 5000km (3000mi) on it. I added a jug (2.5 gal?) when it got low of DPF last spring. Do I need to worry about it going bad?
