You Know You Are Old When

When surgery patients arrive between 5:30 am and 6:30 am I’m often in the lobby for security…

I find myself saying good morning or welcome often…

Many appreciate it, some say I must be a morning person… far from it but I start at 4 am so I’m wide awake and fully engaged by the time patients arrive…

Some only mumble if anything because 5:30 is too early to be up… others say they won’t let me have coffee before surgery…!!!

No greeting from a staff member would just seem unprofessional…

Cheery people in the morning that deny me having coffee and a smoke are not on my xmas list. 🤣

I try to civil on surgery mornings until they park me next to the coffee maker . Last time they detoured me well away from the coffee station, made my day.

The older I get the fewer Xmas lists I’m on…

No smokes is pretty much all of California near any open public space of commerce.

No worries on the coffee maker… not even on the same floor as lobby, admit or Surgery area…

I find it interesting just how much variation in personality I encounter in the wee hours of the morning…

In my impending geezerdom I find I dislike being greeted every time I walk into a business, It throws my thought processes off.

I'm trying to remember what I'm there for, what she asked me to get and if the dogs need anything.

When suddenly some stranger calls out to me which forces my attention away from what I'm pondering.

I'm not a fan of this greet everyone that enters policy, and it seems to have spread everywhere. Even the Harbor Freight cashiers yell at you when you enter the place.

Agreed. The guy being paid to $5/hour to wear a store apron and pretend he's happy to see me is nothing but an annyoing distraction, which I don't need or want. It's amazing that store owners and managers believe this is really improving anyone's day, or somehow helping their business.

When I am forced to go to a store for something, I'm on a mission, I'm not there to socialize. I want to get in, get my sh*t, and get back out in minimum time with minimum distraction.

I don't mind being greeted/acknowledged when I walk into a business, but, like you I dislike being pounced on and asked if I need help finding anything.
The irony in that is that those times I DO need help finding something, you can't find anyone.

Some days when someone sez “Good Morning” (and it depends on the person), I tell them to NOT tell me how to run my life… :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
I only say that to my close friends.... Don't tell me what kind of day to have! 😂

I've run into quit a few people over the years that if you say "good morning" to them, they'll say "what's good about it?"

So I stopped saying good morning and only say "Morning" to folks in passing. If they ask "what's good about it?" I just keep on walking.

We've got a local hardware store that is well staffed and usually within the first 5 steps in the door someone will ask if they can help you find something. I always take advantage of that and say "yep, I'm looking for yadda yadda" and off we go.

I like going to Menards around here. If I can't find something, I just ask the first person I see, and without hesitation, they drop what they're doing and will take me across the entire store if necessary, or to the help desk if they don't know. Sometimes I feel bad about this, so I stop them and ask them just tell me the isle and I'll find it. 9 out of 10 times they'll say thanks, but I'll go with you.

I think it might be store policy to help people.... how weird is that? 😂

I like to make a shopping list and add the isle and shelf numbers to my list but I often have to ask someone where isle _ _ is.
