Ya need to stick something sharp in it to let the pressure out.
Just kidding that would result in a fireball.

Actually, the hard part about replacing the battery has already been done - opening the phone.
Nothing to lose but the cost of a replacement battery.
Now is the time to back up important photos and other data if you haven't already done so.
If you decide to attempt repair, be careful to not cut any cables while opening the phone.

Looks like an iPhone. If so, Apple iPhone Repair Help: Learn How to Fix It Yourself.. The ifixit site covers many other devices also.

The phone is an old iPhone 6 which we only use for background sound at night in the bedroom. It’s a toss. Already ordered a “new” old phone replacement.

We could have just bought a MP3 player, but I wanted a functional phone in case of emergency.

Like when your phone catches fire :ROFLMAO:

Buy a unlocked phone and put it on US Mobile.
US Mobile has the lowest rates and does verizon or AT&T or T-Mobile . I have been with US Mobile for almost a year now and it’s been flawless, way cheaper and way more data.

I don’t need to have a service as the only call I might make on it is to 911 and iphones can call that number without service. I don’t know if others have that.

Pretty sure all phones of any type can do a 911 call, no matter what. As long as they power up...

You can call your local police department NON emergency number and explain you'd like to test your phone for 911.
I've done it in the past, no problem.

When I had issue similar to RSKY's worse day ever thread with vertigo, I called 911. EMT's took me to the hospital and family didn't know what happened to me. I was not answering my cell phone and couldn't call anyone to tell them EMTs took me. But later on we heard our 911 operators like those calls about if they had a call from someone like myself when EMT's were sent out to get me.

So I think calling 911 to test system, with the first comment from caller is "this is a test, or non emergency call". I will say our 911 service is for a small county wide in northern Michigan, not a large populted are. Jon

The last time this happen to one of my phones (Samsung S7) I convinced them to repair it free of charge about 3 months or so out of warranty. The phone repair parts list included about everything - Battery, PCB, Screen, Camera and lenses, Rear case, etc.. Pretty sure they just through in an otherwise repaired phone and called it even.

Every cell phone can call e911 w/o service, it's a requirement

I have donated old phones for that purpose. They replaced the batteries in working phones and gave them to victims of domestic violence. I doubt that program is still active as most everyone has a cell phone now.

You know, I wanted to see what a Lithium battery burns like so I removed it from the phone and took it to a barren area. I took a hatchet and cut it in half and NOTHING! I cut it in half the other direction and NOTHING.

Great disappointment. I gave the battery a solemn burial.

I’m using my apple 6s now…

10 years and no issue but some apps I depend on no longer work and the operating system can not advance to the new minimum required

10 years is a good run but 20 would be better.
