To get a tractor with the HP and weight to replace my old one I will be dealing with a DPF. Is this something I can live with? Are the electronics on the L3560 or L4060 troublesome? Thanks

I have the DPF system on both my L6060 and MX5800 and have had no trouble at all. 2K hours total on both machines and most of the time, I don't even notice when a regen cycle is happening. Only once did I have to do a parked regen cycle.

My L4060 has been trouble free over the past 1200 hours. It regens on average every 53 hours, for 13-15 minutes while I continue working.

440 hours on my L3560. 13 or 14 regens without a hitch. Had to replace an o-ring on a FEL line and both 3rd function hoses. That’s it.

My advice is to ask people who don't like them. Find out why.
I don't like to run any tractor at the higher RPM that the DPF engines seem to require.
My preference is to work at a lower rpm just because that is how I most enjoy tractor work.

Also, you shouldn't ask people who have had no problems. Ask the people who had to replace their emissions systems. Find out what it cost and how long it took.
It’s not a common thing. Start a poll of how many people have had to replace their emissions systems. Doubtful that many will have done this.

This is very true.
It should also be noted that it's mostly people who have had trouble that post. Not many that I've seen.
People that are happy generally don't post.

For what it's worth, I hate DPF's, SCR and all that stuff. Just because the potential is there for costly repairs.
But the other day at my Kubota dealer I was out in the yard looking at new LX's and L's and one of the young mechanics walked by. I asked if he sees many problems with those models and he said no.
And this dealer has a lot of them sold to snow contractors.

A lot of people haven't been in a car accident. I still want airbags.

Many people have had emissions problems. It's smart to know the risks.

Exactly. I've ran three class 8 trucks with SCR. Two weren't too bad, but still the odd minor issue, one almost made me suicidal.

As for my tractors, I'm lucky enough that, for my chores, I can get by with tractors like the B/LX/L2502 that have no emissions aftertreatment and I have bigger vintage tractors if needed.
I choose to stay with those models because I have no risk of ever needing expensive repairs or a tractor sitting at the dealer instead of in my yard working. May never happen, but the possibility is there.

I went through two def tanks for my m5-111. The last recall was the fix. No problems for the last few years. It regens often. Probably because I don't run it hard enough. I don't like that when I am mowing, and the dpf is about full I can't do a manual regen. It's not that easy doing loader work at high rpm with a manual transmission.

The replies from people who haven't had problems yet aren't actually useful.

Owners with no dpf problems are without a doubt the silent majority.
I would be happy to listen to anyone that had problems. A 25HP tractor with 20HP @ the PTO is not enough for my needs. I have 60 to 70 acres I hit at least once a year with the brush hog and a 6' Woods finish mower used on a few acres. I have an eight foot breaking disk and a tiller to make side by side trails along with a rock rake and box blade. If I buy new I will be getting a DPF.

That was my dilemma too, so I bought a older used tractor, no computer or other stuff not need to transform diesel into torque!

As a long distance truck driver, driving new trucks, currently sitting in the sleeper of my 2026 Kenworth semi-truck ... We only keep these trucks 4 years, or 600K miles, whichever comes first ...

Our single most reason for shop time, not counting regular PM's or tire failures ... Is emissions related failures, sometimes we can just reflash, or update the ECU, or replace some sensors, occasionally we have had the complete def tank collapse! We take the DPF out at 300K miles and have Kenworth clean it.

Both the shop foreman, and his top mechanic chose to buy non-emissions tractors, based on the headaches they deal with on a daily basis with our fleet of 450 trucks ...

What about replies from people that have never even owned one which is most of them? Emissions equipment does lower reliability that’s just straight facts but they aren’t out breaking down everyday to the point you can’t even use them either. If you stay under 75 hp and just have DPFs without DEF the reliability seems to be better.
