Doctors' offices now sell patient data to medical data brokers. Doctors offices have found a new source of revenue. Those forms you sign, well...you sign your rights away.

I know because I purchased an AI platform that allows us to get medical information on anyone for rate setting functions. It's deidentified data in the output, but it's scary just how much data there are on people these days.

Well I'm using the data to make health insurance more affordable by aligning cost drivers to higher premiums and making non cost drivers have lower premiums.

We use to have a community rating approach to healthcare. Where the sick and healthy were lumped together in one pool. That only resulted in healthy people paying more in premium that did not reflect their true risk, and sick people paying less than their true risk.

Now we will let the healthy people have lower premiums and we will blend the bad risk in as appropriate. Then we will transfer the really bad risk to reinsurance pools.

If we don't let healthy people pay less, they are just going to leave the insurance market all together.

And there it is, driver of anything that lowers costs in any market.....
Only concern of total (or substantial) loss of revenue as any impact on the market forces.

All businesses have to adopt that today....

That doesn't do much for all of the other insurance hassles, like enduring months of treatment by a low cost drug for the doctor being able to prescribe the clinical proven more effective drug.

My wife is being treated for wet AMD, shots in the eyes. Started out monthly, now she's up to 11 weeks between shots. We are hoping to get to 4 months between shots.
BUT - INITIALLY the Kaiser doc wanted to keep her on a less expensive med (Avastin ~$50/shot/eye, once a month), about . When I got aggravated and questioned the Kaiser doc she told me "the newer meds were cost prohibitive". I had to get the upper branches of Kaiser to call her and tell her my insurance would cover almost anything. She is now getting Eylea HD (cost ~ $2K/shot/eye) the extra 2 months between shots is well worth it. And our copay is the same $20 per visit.

It's called preexisting conditions and picking who they want as patients. We were going in that direction before....hence the need for healthcare reform.

What does some average person do if they don’t have insurance? It’s bankruptcy and ongoing future problems. One of the main affects is blood clots and likelihood of a stroke.
