Marijuana on the job

btw, the green stuff costs about 285 an ounce locally, in NJ.
It was about 190 in California so transport cost not bad.
used to be 400.
Do they take SNAP or other benny cards?

look at the price of a retail pack of cigarettes

I'm a retired CFP and it has always pained me to get in line, when I was in NC, at the supermarket and see all these poor folk
buying cases of beer, cartons of cigarettes, and usually several cases of Coke or similar. And yes add bags of chips.
it wasn't a cliche...it was real and a lot of it.

does get back to the core comment of using common sense.

Under $70 per ounce average in Michigan.

There are so many places to buy it, and more opening up, that it's starting to cost more to grow and process it than it will sell for. Pardon the pun, but it's weeding out the smaller stores. 🙃

I have no clue what hippy hay cost here. I smoke hash exclusively. I still have some from when I was working 2 years ago.

i wonder why Michigan is so much less expensive
not legal in PA
D&D, I have no idea, not much contact

I can’t even imagine how things would be today because MJ is everywhere and used freely
Consider yourself lucky. Here and a lot of places they encourage employers to keep Narcan on hand because so many people are ODing on the job as well as elsewhere.
A local police chief said that he's lost an entire generation to narcotics.

I have Narcan in my office and in my Truck.

Police cars all carry it and most have defibrillators.

Open air drug use is very common and most mornings at work I get to clear the doorways of folks stoned….

Sometimes it’s just a bottle of wine and food stolen from grocery stores… other times the dime bags or zip lock bags of MJ are laying in the open.

I have always, always said no to anything stronger than pot all my life, and particularly anything that came in a pill.
So many opportunities to try cocaine and now at 75, sure not going to start.
smart folks should worry whether they might just like it too much.

Since I had alcoholism in my family, I knew better. Most addictions are like a tar baby,
you get close in and you get stuck. (metaphor for a sticky and worsening situation)
I think like in life we all have to make lines we just won't cross.
it's really like the hot stove warning. How many times do you have to put your hand
on the burner til you figure out that's an absolute no no.
Was a psych minor in college, always fascinating why folks do what they do.
now just what motivates you to do something that stupid?

I was a local volunteer fireman in my small town for many years.
Carried all sorts of stuff in the trunk to help people.
I guess now the current standard is Narcan.
makes me want to study the Good Samaritan clause for PA...

drive safely and defensively and be careful in public settings.

marijuana smells bad, don't know anyone who likes that smell, maybe that's why vaping
has become so popular. My hvac repair guy, older fellow, was constantly vaping while working on my unit
in the basement. Zero smell. Have no idea what he was sucking on.
He was sharp and diagnosed multiple burned out components, had the parts, and back running in two hours.
you can't be stoned and accomplish that. So I'm guessing a tobacco product.
I'm a lifelong nonsmoker so having him vape in my basement was a little odd

I can honestly say that I have never tried poppers. But everything else, yes. I used to say 'if you haven't tried it don't knock it', well I am here to say now that I can and will knock most everything except weed/hash. I still do NOT toke and drive.

Just recently, Niles Township, MI, just north of South Bend, IN, started taking applications for pot stores, several have been made so far. They will be located just north of the Indiana state line, like as little as a couple of hundred feet, so the Hoosier potheads can slide up there and buy their weed. Personally, I think the cops should watch patrons leave the stores and pull them over once the cross the state line. We have enough problems with alcoholics and hard drug users, potheads are just another problem. A significant percentage of drivers stopped for DWI are stoned according to arrest reports.
I have a neighbor that is always complaining about being broke, but always seems to have a couple of hundred bucks to buy pot a couple of times a month. He doesn't get any sympathy from me.
I guess it's all about priorities.

If their lives are so bad that hey need drugs to cope, it would seem to me that that the money could be better spent to make changes in their life, like vocational training or online education so they could get a better job.

I guess I'll never understand what goes on in their heads.

to the OP's original thread. how do employers cope with potential safety/liability issues with employees on drugs (given all other headaches of regulations)
seems to me, so many employees are also on legal prescriptions that are as equally hazardous to the work arena.

it's all about State & fed regulation & of course liability insurance. sympathize with the OP for the question.
otherwise, the thread becomes a confessional of personal "drug" use that diverts the OP's question & concern

IMO, we're moving backwards. The states are "legalizing" the sale and use yet the fed still just says no. So much in fact that these dispensaries aren't allowed to have bank accounts. No bank accounts, how accurate are the tax receipts? Who is left holding the bag if weed is found to cause certain long-term ailments (like cigarettes)?
In md there are no tax gains from weed sales, they made it tax exempt

I’ve read even Indiana has even began considering legalizing some type of weed usage.
It’s been so long since I have had I puff, I kinda forget what it’s like.

My idea of getting high for the last 25/30 years is enjoying a root beer float!

Did you see the ban on pot store billboards/advertising they want to implement in Indiana? The reasoning being if it's not legal in Indiana, it shouldn't be legal to advertise for it in Michigan. So driving up 933, for example, you see pot shop billboards in Indiana for the stores up ahead just a few miles in Michigan. However, I believe they grandfathered any advertising that is already in place until its contract runs out. I seem to recall one of them signed a 10 year contract before the ban. ;)

Just a quick screen grab from Wiki....
- 39 states have legal medical marijuana.
- 24 states have legal recreational marijuana.

Indiana is surrounded. Pot shops at every boarder.

Can't go wrong with a root beer float!

You could add a shot or two of this, though...

As for Indiana legalizing pot for recreational use.... we just got Sunday liquor sales a few years ago. I'd be surprised if we got legalized pot until only a couple states are left that don't have it.
