I spoke with my Dr. about why they still do such an invasive procedure that is potentially dangerous.
At the time I had been for a CT Scan for something else. They didn't find anything and he was also able to tell me that there were no blockages in my arteries as an aside.
I asked why they don't do that instead of a colonoscopy since it's able to pickup such small details.
Answer was that during a colonoscopy if there are polyps they can get an immediate sample.
I asked how many have polyps. Not many.
So the large (vast) majority of us are forced to undergo an uncomfortable, potentially dangerous procedure that could be done much more easily. For the small number that do have polyps etc this could be followed up by a colonoscopy.
I'm convinced Drs. make more money the invasive way.

I worried before my first colonoscopy because of all of the negative comments that I had heard over the years. After it was done, I sure questioned what I had heard. It was a breeze. I cook in our house so taking the prep wasn't as bad as some of my cooking. Snip the polyps while they are in there and you are done. My uncle died of very preventable colon cancer because he wouldn't have a colonoscopy.

I actually forgot about Dave Barry.

Dad got me reading Art Buchwald and mom got me reading Erma Bombeck. Dave Barry kind of replaced both for me after both Mr. Buchwald and Mrs. Bombeck died.

Local newspapers kind of suck now. Locally over $3 per paper ($4 on Sunday), when I had a paid subscription they could never deliver on a regular time at all (if they made the delivery at all), and the comic section keeps getting cut and kind of suckS as well (at least locally).

I was very impressed however with the San Francisco newspaper though when were in California late last year. Comics even came in color on a weekday!

Newspapers are my crack cocaine now. Spend way too much money to read the paper but it was a habit my dad got me into, and if I want one, I need to pay the bend over price at a gas station.

That's another sign you're old. You like to read the newspaper over a cup of coffee in the morning instead of reading it online via an electronic devise where it's cheaper.

Last November spent a week in Tahoe with the wife.

Don't normally hurt, but long story short, went to the emergency room out there due to some very severe neck pain (never experienced before in my life).

Emergency room visit was actually nice. Only two hours total time. They only did some bloodwork, and I talked with the Dr. and nurse a couple of times, because the worst thing you can do is become a doctor yourself by reading about your ailment because the word meningitis kept coming up with me reading LOL

Was paying my end of my last bloodwork yesterday (physical this month) actually and my wife mentioned about that emergency room visit in California because I may need to write another check for that visit 4 months ago.

Wife asked me to guess what the total tab was for those 2 hours. I replied "what, a couple of grand?"

Total "cost" being charged by the hospital was $7,400.

There was NOTHING invasive about that visit other than what they are charging IMO.

Agree that newspapers have gone way downhill. It's gotten so the Sunday paper is thinner than a mid-week day's paper not that many years ago. Price has not gone down to reflect the lack of content.
Local grocery store has a basket with day old papers for free, I'll just grab one of them. Not paying $3 for something I can read cover to cover in 5 minutes.

Colon cancer tends to develop slowly. A lot of old men die with colon cancer, but they don't die FROM it. After a certain age, depending on the details, something else is likely to be the eventual cause of death.

That's basically what my dr. told me.

Used to be a guy that wrote the back page article for field and stream. His review of the first multi tools on the market was hilarious.

I read two papers everyday. I get quite frustrated regarding the poor job done proofreading articles.

Grammar, spelling, not a worry it seems. In the computerized world you'd think it would be better. Evidently not.

If you're interested, Dave Barry has become more active recently. It kind of nags you to subscribe for a fee, but you don't have to.
