22 outside right now, heading to lower 30's. Don't think we will get much melting with these temps.

Not much of anything done yesterday. Took the chainsaw for a walk to cut up some limbs, could not play pick up sticks. Just walking in the snow is exhausting enough, sticks all disappeared in the drifts. Speaking of which, last nights animal care turned into an RTV rescue. Ended up getting stuck in a drift, bottomed out. Had to walk back to barn to get the shovel. It was tractor time for the remaining feeding of the herd. With the cab it was actually not bad. LOL. Will have to clear end of driveway this AM. It's always getting blocked with the plows clearing the roads. Speaking of which, they suck. They do need some sand or something.

Hope all have a good day. Be safe, stay warm.

Good Morning! Reporting the warmest Temp this morning at 33˚F heading to the upper 40s, Cloudy, N wind. The rains will come Thursday afternoon when the temp is in the upper 30s so snow is now out of the forecast. I am surprised that Lexington, 50 miles South of here is colder, maybe the pool water at 49˚ is keeping the backyard warmer.

Only had one water leak related to the cold, a plug on the pools filter. It was in a tight spot that I could not get to so I had to call out the pool guy. He got it repaired yesterday afternoon with blue teflon tape and a tube of silicon on the plug's threads. Glad nothing was cracked.

Still no word on the shipping of the pool robot I might have to buy a second one so they one keep each other company. The pool guy agreed that in the spring when the backyard live Oak looses it's leaves two surface bots will probably be needed when the wind blows from the N or W.

Too cold to turn on the heater for the hot tube when the gym is a few miles away and has an indoor one and an outdoor one already heated. The outdoor one had a lot of steam coming up from it yesterday but too cold outside to even think of putting on swim trunks.

Drew, my wife was also thinking at one time of being an English teacher. She has an adult teaching degree so she could get the certification and teach in a Jr. college or as a substitute teacher where no certification is necessary. She was an nurse instructor at the hospital in a past life. She is currently taking Spanish and German (German relatives are coming in May) so she doesn't have the time now. She is preparing a label reading class for the Plant Based group also next month - I have sat in some of her classes, she is good.

good morning, 19 going to 26 with some more snow and drifting overnight

Slipped and fell yesterday walking Cody. Ice under 2 inch of light snow fooled me.
Old Judo instinct of "tuck and roll" was still there. Tall leather boots also saved my ankle from more serious injury

Need to do some more snow clean up this morning and limit walking to safe areas. Brought up the ice cleats and left them on the patio to use when needed

The heater on the tractor is not heating at 100 percent so need to look into that. Maybe valve not fully open. Maybe cardboard in front of radiator will help
I put my 'winter front' on in November. A piece of cardboard in front of the radiator. Not pretty, but who cares about pretty? I care about being warm.
How old is your tractor and to what degree is your anti-freeze? I am thinking thermostat stuck open. If that is the case, given where you are, a piece of cardboard may get you by until better weather where you can change the thermostat.
BUT on the other hand, IF your anti-freeze isn't cold enough you may have frozen the heater core and that requires IMMEDIATE attention.

Yes good suggestions. The tractor is from 2006 and I changed the thermostat last year. The heating control valve is electrically controlled and the actuator has failed so disconnected the actuator and reaching under the seat to move the heating valve. Could have changed position to only partially open. I am too cheap to spend several hundred dollars to install new one I guess

In my years of pushing snow here I’ve never seen them use sand further north yes just not locally. Hopefully I can get to tractor today to see if I can loosen this snow sleet ice up. The sun can do marvelous things once a spot opens up

Morning all, 23 going up to 30 and sunny.
Did not get anything done after work, just dog walks.

Our condolences NHBX

Mostly - we got less than 2", not enough to be a worry.

BEF - when our mailbox got taken out a few years back by a plow, neighbor rebuilt the whole thing for both our boxes. Still looks pretty good, I need to clean it again and I did add lighting.
Maybe time for a new fancy design using cement and steel?

Be well

Good Morning
21° with a high of 27 under mostly sunny skies and winds in the teens. Another day to find inside chores to keep you occupied.

Yesterday’s breakfast was good. Afterwards wife and I went to HD, she was looking for heated gloves, and unsurprisingly, they were sold out.
After that it was back to the shop to continue to clean and organize the welding area in the shop.
I decided that I want to drill some more clamp holes in the top of the welding table, there are on 12” centers now, I’d like to cut that in half. That’s a lot of 3/4” holes in 3/4” thick steel.
I borrowed a magnetic drill press to drill the first ones, as a believer in the rule of thumb ”if you borrow something twice, you need to buy it” I ordered one and a set of annular cutters.
So that will be a project for later in the week.

We took Zoe to the trainer yesterday, he is going to work with us to curb her enthusiasm for new people. She is a moose of a dog with the attention span and brain of a puppy. She is actually well trained, and knows exactly what is expected of her, but we need to work through the distractions. Otherwise, she is an absolute sweetheart, she just gets excited to try and win new people over. The plan is to do our homework and go back once a week for a couple months.

After that, it was back to the shop for a while, then home for dinner and feet up in front of the fire.

Just as I was getting comfy, I got a call from oldest son, he was in FL for work, and his wife wasn’t answering the phone. He wanted me to go down and check on her and my grandson. Doors were all locked from the inside, so I knew they were inside. But they didn’t answer. So I knocked on windows until I got the dogs attention, then they woke up and answered. Turns out the new puppy chewed up her phone charger, and they don’t have a land line.

Airport Authority meeting tonight, likely some shop time, and then wait for the wild cards to be dealt.

Condolences on the loss of your sister NHBX.

Maybe time for a new fancy design using cement and steel?

I usually set a pipe in concrete with a flange about 4” above grade. Then a mating flange with the post welded to it. The flanges are bolted together with 1/4” grade 3 bolts.
That provides a failure point that’s easily fixed when it gets hit.
