I love Musk... But admittedly Tesla does a lot of hype. This was the LONG awaited big reveal. Someday we will have these things. Rinse, repeat.
As the engineer in charge of many new designs over-promised by management, I honestly wonder how Tesla manages to hang onto technical staff. It must be a very frustrating environment, working for someone who continually and repeatedly sets you up to fail on schedule and goals.

The Gull wing doors may give lots of space to get into the taxi but look to require more side clearance from another vehicle as well.
Absolutely. You can park in a tight spot and still get in out with a partial conventional door opening. Gull wing is limited to full area requirement

Yeah, there's no half-opening a full wing to get out! But most gull wings honestly take less space than a side-swinging door.

It depends on where the hinge point is, but most are smart enough to move it toward the centerline of the roof. It’s a compromise, as you give up roof strength by moving the hinge toward center (think T-tops), but if you move the hinge far enough inboard, you can create a scenario where the door never even swings out farther than the full-closed position.

Just checked the stock, it is down 7% after the show.

This event turned out to be more of a teaser and "Forward Looking Statement" imo.

Stock holders reacted accordingly.

I think Tesla is still in a lull between new battery tech and some other forward moves like their energy storage/ grid back up, computer tech, Neuralink, etc. Maybe 2026 or 2027 until another real change.

Other than checking on resale- Ouch, Still really enjoy the Model Y and plan to run the wheels off of it, and that new US Model 3 Performance Highland really is quite a car as far as it's abilities.

ps. Not sold on the idea of Gull wing doors on any Taxi, I hope they over engineered that part because, Taxi door pins, moving parts and body mount points take a lot of wear and stress with the massive number of cycles. They also set the seat height to low as well imo.

Adam's Everything EV's, who posts a lot of Ocean video's and has and does own Tesla's was less charitable on the whole event.

I bet ya EV sales slow down dramatically in Florida and Carolina's.....millions without power still. Meanwhile stored gasoline and tanker trucks coming to rescue keep many ICE vehicles running. On a similar vein....if a EV sits in flooded salt water 2 ft deep, is it a write off ???

Go back to sleep dumb dumb

Granted. Yes. I have full coverage on all our vehicles, as do most owning newer cars in flood-prone areas.

No way do I have the time to deal with a flood car, as my personal vehicle. If I had a teen driver like Dftodd, then I might consider keeping it for them, if it could be made whole again.

But I think you guys vastly under-appreciate just what a mess any car can be, after submersion in any water. It's not really a valid "EV vs ICE" argument, they're all going to be an expensive mess, in most cases. There are a lot of electronics in ICE's today, and engines and transmissions don't take well to submersion. Interior and HVAC is usually a total gut and redo, as well, as fresh water usually comes with mud.
You obviously don't drive your 4wd trucks thru rivers and streams to access hunting and fishing spots like me and my friends and relatives do here in Northern Ontario. To each his own. We drive on frozen lakes too. ;)
