Good Morning in the aftrnoon from Central Texas. 80+ degrees yesterday and 47f this morning and now at 50f. So we are still in Texas!

It's extermely busy this time of year in even numbered years so I have only been checking in occasionally. Maybe I can get caught up in early April.

Hope everyone is healthy or getting healthy, well-fed and happy!

Flash freeze happening now. Was 45 this morning when I got up and it is now 10F. Snowing too. Nothing like what Donner Pass is getting, thankfully.

Paperwork all done up for the accountant to do my taxes. I will send it to him via registered mail. He will 'do' it up and send me the final page with what I owe or not via docu-sign. I will sign off on it and then he e-files it and within 2 weeks I get my refund.
Tomorrow is the North Bay shopping trip, 8 stops including lunch. Should be home by 2 P.M. maybe. Depends on how long it takes to get my watch fixed. (New band AND battery).

Happy birthday to Mrs. M7040

Happy birthday to your son Scotty

The dug well is only used for car/equipment washing and garden watering.

A few years ago a woman (elderly) complaining that her well water smelled and tasted odd. Neighbour pulled the lid off the well and found it full of snakes.

Iowa PBS put out this documentary on the rise of mechanization in farming and the early history of
tractor wars between John Deere, Ford and International Harvester.
I find it fascinating that Ford was more interested in building tractors than he was cars.
John Deere knew they couldn't compete, what to do?
really quite an interesting show but it is an hour long.
The mechanization of agriculture is still going on worldwide.
Ford sending Fordsons to Ireland to build was also interesting and why they are all over the UK.
That's one blue color no longer made.

I wish there was a part two of this documentary.
would be interesting to see impact of three point hitch.
Ford built over half a million 8 & 9Ns thanks to that hitch
always thought that was a good looking tractor
definitely not a high crop model...
They were the Kubotas of a past generation

What are your ideas of moving your lathe and mill?
For the lathe, I used a pair of Roll-A-Lifts, each rated for a half ton. They're basically dollies with the shelf hooked to a hand pumped hydraulic cylinder and swiveling casters for wheels. One goes on each end held in place with a ratchet strap. I was able to move the lathe up the trailer ramp using a come-a-long with rope instead of wire. It went fairly smoothly, but I kept having to straighten out the lathe once it got onto the ramp. With two extra sets of hands, it was no problem at all.

The mill is too heavy for that, so it'll get bolted down to a custom pallet and moved with a pallet lift. I'll use a very long pry bar to get it up off the floor, and keep working blocking under it using a toe jack until it's even with the pallet. Then put iron pipes under it to roll it onto the pallet. I'll also have to rent a drop gate trailer, this time from U-Haul, and I'll buy their insurance. Pretty sure I can do the work on my own, but wouldn't refuse help if offered. You busy?😂
