Snowing pretty hard and accumulating. Cody had his first run in the snow. Staying in today and will not do any plowing before snowing stops. If any icing I want that to be on top of the snow..

Wife cut her finger deboning the chicken. Got her cleaned up and bandaged

Daughter got another award. The ceremony is when she is in Latvia so she will tie in remotely. Not sure how much money is attached
She is going to Latvia January, Madrid in February, Stuttgart March, Australia April and she also going to Columbia for a wedding.
Columbia worries me but she says it is not a problem where she is going. Hmm wondering.
Had a gas turbine project in Columbia and the front gate to the plant got blown up by a truck bomb
Colombia. . . Emeralds. . . 😁👍

little bit of (not entirely) useless trivia:

The element that makes emeralds green also makes rubies red. Chromium. In one it is an additive coloration, in the other it is a subtractive coloration (think photo negatives).

Chromium in gems will fluoresce under unltraviolet light. It fluoresces red.

so, under a flutes event light source (laser is preferable), rubies will fluoresce red, and emeralds will fluoresce red, too. A cheap, simple method for basic identification.

(She should pick up some emeralds while in Colombia…)

33F and mostly cloudy @ 14:15, calling for a high of 35F for the day. Had a little snow earlier, not really expecting much ... but they did upgrade the forecast last night to maybe an inch or so from this system.

Expecting 45F and rain by Tuesday though.

Woman reported a large flock of black birds - probably starlings - attempting to clean out the hopper feeder earlier. Saw chickadees, juncos, tufted titmice, various finches of different types, a red-bellied woodpecker, and about half a dozen cardinals when I looked out a bit ago.

Got new silcocks put on in laundry room and water turned back on - no leaks !

Will be nice to have the hot water feed operating at a higher flow. For some reason it had been turned down and had gotten frozen there - to the point it took probably 30 - 45 minutes to fill when using hot only.

Got order placed for washer parts before they closed at 18:00 CST.

Got email notification by 20:00 (local) that the parts that been picked up by Fedex in North Las Vegas and that detailed tracking info would be available once they got into their system at the terminal.

Checked this morning when I got up and it showed the order departed Fedex's warehouse in Henderson, NV at 01:55 AM. Estimated arrival on Tuesday.

Probably get back to pulling that inner basket out, clean behind the dryer while I have things torn apart.

Hope everyone is having a decent Saturday ... (y)

Good (Sunday) morning. Overnight Low of 16.6C and it's currently 17.9C, overcast & calm.

Paddock #6 has been chain-harrowed & mulched = me covered in a fine coating of horse 'dust'. ;) Paddock #1 is all set up.

Nothing planned for today and I'm off to Church in a half hour, then the rest of the day is His.

That's about it, take care all.

Good Evening Guys,
Ct, no snow yet, im guessing about 7pm to start !

Your talk of generators, Scott, reminds me that the new house needs a transfer switch so I can hook up a generator. Only trouble is it also has solar power, and as far as I can tell, there's no provision for hooking up a generator to the system. And from what I've seen of Sunrun's so called customer service, asking how to do it will be like talking to a brick wall...
RNG,
You have to love when these people put in a system and then you need them to upgrade, and nobody can give any advice or help you out !
for target practice something small is fine
most of this stuff seems to be a buck a bullet or more

Drew, years ago I purchased a Ruger Model 77 , 22-250. I used to buy Hornady ammunition at a local Walmart for $12 for a box of 20 ! Fast forward to today, Walmart doesnt even sell ammo anymore ! This was really good ammo 45 gr or more, I wouldnt want to know what this stuff even cost now !!

Think walmart had trouble hiring anyone competent to work the gun counter.

I think for target practice light loads would make sense. Whatever costs less.
I'd be happy with a .22 and some paper targets
don't they make some that explode in color if you hit the bullseye?
Nothing could be better than winning a stuffed toy for your girl friend
with a toy electronic rifle at the firemen's June fair.

snow has stopped, sleet tinkling on windows, fine night to stay in,

60 and sunny skies made Pickle ball a delight. This is where we played. The neighborhood has 26 courts, show in pic 4 courts.

Yesterday I was rather busy. Brushed my driveway then office's parking lot. On transit between those two noticed place where kids are struggling with cleaning of skate yard (or how you call that place)
There is nothing special, just an empty meadow where water accumulated and it frost. Now on top of ice was like 4 in of snow, which makes ice skating troubled.
At the end it looked like:

Kids were happy, there was grandpa with them, he was soooo exited. Ice is really smooth - it freeze when was very calm, no wind. And that place is rather big. OK, not big lake, but this in on doorsteps. And safe. If ice breaks, you can fall in like 1 ft max

Dog still refuses to live indoors and doesnt skip a walk.
At least he keeps his mouth shut

We were on the walk yesterday around 20:00. Doesnt meet a single person 😁

No big plans for today, just drive in a tote with firewood. Consumption is rather high once difference between in and out is 40 C 😅

Congrats to your daughter !

We greatly appreciate her contribution !
If it were possible, I would love to meet her.
Would show the local landmarks, introduce the local cuisine, etc.
Just give me a message !

Drinking hot cup of coffee. 28° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 35° with mostly cloudy skies. Enough snow fell overnight to cover everything white. Most of it will be gone by end of day. Just had Amazon try to deliver packages to my address. Sent driver across the road. They did same yesterday. Hand delivered to neighbor. Got all mid mount mower parts off my older tractor. Installed some of them on newer tractor. Rest of the parts need cleaning. Will work on that later this week. Later today plan to switch rear tires on tractors. No going to be easy. Loaded tires on newer tractor weight between 300 and 400 lbs each. Then get snow plow on tractor ready for heavy snow fall later this week.

Prayers and best wishes for everyone.

Good Morning All.

good morning all
33 out, shows about .36 on rain gauge so snow definitely turned to rain last night
power stayed on, happy days
And not much to shovel. (y)

am enjoying some Peet's Major Dickinson coffee.
Was a gift, got beans instead of ground, but gosh it tastes so much better.
Almost naturally sweet. Good stuff.

think I might drive up to friend's home in Lederach today outside of Harleysville and try to get a winter drone pic
of his home while the snow is down. Need to get there early before he drives on his driveway. Trying to get a pic that he can use
for a Christmas card next year.

my friends lived in the same modest row home in Souderton for almost 30 years. They saved and saved and finally had a home built
for them. Lovely place, lots of garages for storage for his antique business.
And now, like the rest of his buddies, my friend is thinking about downsizing.

Boeing is going to be writing some big checks for that plane that fell apart.
Seems it wasn't a window but a fake door, a plug where the door is optional, and the plane
was only built ten weeks before. New plane.

my understanding was that jet engines have to have some kind of shrouds, (think top fuel dragsters) around the compressor so the blades
won't fly out upon explosion. I guess not.

my god daughter's husband is a senior pilot for SouthWest.
I get some fun insight from him. He also is a long time Air force weekend warrior,
flying military drones he can't talk to me about.
He flies the big stuff, Popgadget flies everything else.

I haven't flown on an airplane in 20 years but when I did
never had the masks drop down. Good thing.

one concept that I learned carefully when working in power plant industry for several years
was MTBF. Mean Time Between Failures
Note that it says between failures, not before failure.
with increasing use there is an expectation that machines will fail, wear points give way.
You just have to know when that will happen so you can fix it the week before with a planned outage.

MTBF is big in airlines
The mean time between failures on a commercial plane can be a very long time.
Just think of DC-130s flying in Amazon and Nepal still
or even all those B-52s still flying.
The 56 Chevies of the sky. or maybe the Checker cabs of the sky. Built to last.
Not wind up in a huge field in Arizona decomposing under the sun.

I wonder if those modern passenger liners are built as well
vs being incredibly complex to operate with many points of electronic and system failure.

stewardess, another drink please

my friend who I picked up at the airport Friday was on a similar plane out of the same airport the same day.

Morning all!
Looks like 6 or so inches on the ground right now. Currently 22 degrees with 10 more hours of snow to go thru. Surprised this morning that our little dead end street has already seen a town snow plow truck come. Even more surprised that the driver remembered to push the snow out from my driveway and not straight into it! Happy Happy me!
Already finished one coffee by the fire and am about to go grab another. Nice not having to worry about cleaning up here to run to the apartment house and then to work! Will do a rough cleanup here later this morning and at the apartment and finish cleaning up later tonight or in the morning. Depends when the storm actually stops.
Nothing else planned except keep the stove going.
Will attach a pic as promised of the last project. Still can't get a pick to show the actual colors.
Hope everyone stays safe and healthy!
Be careful fighting the snow please!
